Bass Aquarium

Post by Greasemonkey » Sun Aug 27, 2006 10:05 pm

Lately I've been catch alot of LMB that are about 4" - 6" long. i was thinking of keeping one or two the next time I catch them and put them in an Aquarium.

Has anyoe done this? if so, I have some question for you...

How big of a tank would I need? (How many would I need per bass.)

What type of filterations and pumps do you recommends?

I dont plan to keep the bass for long. Probably for 1 season and relase themb ack into the ponds that I get it from.

Alrighty well I have a 75 gal and I used to have a bass in there that I caught and it was about 2" long that I caught on a flyrod. Rule of thumb for a fish tank is 1" per gallon or so of fish per tank so 75 gal= around 75"s of fish. I woulg have atleast a 55 gal tank for multiple bass, but they eat and crap alot so I would Syphon the gravel in the tank out alot, atleast once a week with a 15% water change. Other than that it was a blast to watch him/her eat when I fed it either shinners, goldifsh, and crawdads.

Good stuff. Thanks for the link, I picked up alot of good ideas from that forum.

Would it be any different pickup up a rectangle tank compare to an octagon tank for bass and sun fish? I like the octagon tank.

I have a Hex 30 gal tank and I would get the longer tank for them to swim in. I got for tanks that are shallower with more length and depth. Bass need some room to roam and swim. Go for a 120gal tank. ;)

Up here in Ontario it's illegal to transport live fish (except approved baitfish) without a permit. If you bring home your catch, it better not be alive. :D
