Daiwa SV103 vs Zillion SV TW

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

You can purchase the 7.9 gears from the JDream on plat. They are part 38/52 and are sold as a set for 3630yen.

https://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/opt ... siries/15/

I've purchased several sets. I also bought the the 6.3 out of the PE Special as they are the C6 Bronze gears.
FWIW, the OG Zillion PE Special C6191 (marine grade aluminum bronze alloy?) high tensile brass gears were rated by Daiwa literature as the strongest gears they ever made for the OG Zillion platform. In my hands, it was also the smoothest gear set aside the CC 4.9.

Agreed, a zillion crazy cranker is the smoothest reel I've ever had in my hands, as well.

Thanks for all the input. I have decided on the Zillion SV TW for now mainly due to it being lighter, further caster, and I like the knobs better. 8-)
I own 2 of each reel.
The zillion casts better (longer distance) and does a little better with light baits.
However, difference in casting length and ease of casting light baits is heavily influenced by the spools, and you can get many 34mm aftermarket spools that will do great in both reels.

They 6.3 C6 Bronze are sweet for sure. They are in my spinnerbait reels and I chuckle at times how smooth they are.

Interesting l to note as I have 12+ sets of gears. The C6 do not tarnish and look brand new in the plastic while the brass has gotten darker. Not a performance review but a showing of their unique properties.

Yeppers... essentially the "same type" C6191 that's in the 2019 Morethan XH 8.6 with new gear design/cut/step/etc.

Holy chit that was an old post. Like 6 years ago. Yea I sold the Zillion SV TW and have kept and modded two SV103 reels. The SV103 is superior in every way.

Did all of the PE Specials come with the bronze gears? I don't remember my 6.3 PE Special being that much smoother

If I'm not mistaken, the Catalina TW also comes with the bronze "Hyper Digigear" as well.

Just the OG 6.3, not the later 7.9. I have had a couple of Zillions with the 6.3, all were very smooth, however in my hands, the PE is smoother under load, especially cranking big spinnerbaits with #6-#7 willows and big #5-#6 Colorado and Indiana blades.

Are those spools a Gold ZPI PG and a Red ZPI M?

Ha. Sorry. I did not notice the date of the old post.

Beautiful SV103s you have there.

I use ZPI in mine too. Or should I say, I have ZPIs in my SV103s as I rarely use the reels. I do not think I used them at all in 2021-2022. Hope for time to give them a workout in 2013.

Close, the other way around. The red is the PG and the gold is the M. It is likely the angle of the picture that sort of gives a false illusion.
