It's calcutta not conquest. Still a pretty nice reel.

I remember buying the conquest 50DC a few years back, and was amazed at how solid and smooth it felt. Its like that thing was a limited edition millionaire rebranded for Shimano.

I recommend fishing and comparing an actual Conquest BFS or even a 2019/2020 Conquest DC. That Calcutta 51 might feel like an underpowered coffee grinder by comparison. I’ve had almost all of the Conquest/TE variations (and most of the other high end round reels from other brands) and for me I think the new DC models are the best fishing reels I’ve used. I know certain ppl prefer the older models but for me the new ones are better in almost every way when I’m actually fishing them side by side. Just my opinion tho, it’s a Ford vs Chevy debate everytime.

I really have a problem over shimano lowering quality and reliability for it's newer reels.
Fish a Conquest BFS reel, the new Antares or the Met 20's and you'll quit making every post of yours one about your issues with Shimano. ;)

Definitely agree. Gets old quick. Even a post about a fun new reel went downhill quickly ](*,)

Are you hurting because of my posts? lol So, to have any semblance of a decent build quality I have to appeal to Shimanos high-end reels? What do you think about the new hagane concept, with cast-pot frames?
I apologize if I offended--the wink emoji didn't suffice to show I was teasing you a bit.

I do agree that the Shimano build quality in some models "wasn't what it used to be." I can't speak to some of their lower priced models (even if I still have a fondness for the Curado that got me into baitcasters or the Scorpion that was my first JDM reel). But, I would imagine that at lower price points, there is a trade off in materials that occurs to keep the reel at the lower price point.

While I have more Shimano reels, I do like the Daiwa ones that I have too. :D

Thanks Cal =D> I’m good with hearing about members issues with gear as that’s very important...but wow, some people can go overboard.

The "actual" Calcutta Conquest 50 is by far one of my favorite reels Shimano ever produced. If you actually get your hands on the Conquest version, youll love it even more as the spool is better. Definitely built them better back in the day.
