It’s been sometime since I researched line comparisons, but as far as leader/tippet was concerned, Seaguar Grand Max was pretty darn close to advertised in diameter and break strength. I tried it and never went back. I feel I can bump up one size to what I would use in every other brand and still maintain the same amount of bites. I also found I could pull harder on fish too.

I have switched to Sufix Advance Mono this year for my mono needs and have found I can downsize 1 size compared to what I normally run as it seems strong per diameter, but I haven’t mic’ed anything. Just comparing two pieces of line visually, which is not scientific at all...

I tried 10# Sufix Advance last year, but am
still not convinced of its abrasion resistance.

By the way, the 10# Advance is listed at .012 in.
and actually measures .01275, which is about
6.25% thicker.

What is your impression of Advance so far?

I’ll agree on abrasion resistance, it’s not invincible like the claim. Stretch is less than most, but not as little as CXX. I think it handles like a dream, even cold. That’s why I think it’s abrasion resistance is average to below average for mono. For its handling, I can trade that off. It will coil on the spool over time, but it seems to relax again once you start fishing it. Sensitivity is on par with most fluorocarbon, very similar to Seaguar Tatsu/Sunline Sniper, but obviously far more manageable. Thickness I’ll believe ya, is ever so slightly over, but not enough to matter for my applications. I am downsizing from my go to Stren Original. 12Lb Advance for 14lb purple box Stren Original, and so on. I’m currently running 8lb, 10lb, and 12lb regularly for steelhead and walleyes when I’m not running braid. Spinning, baitcasting, and centerpin reels. I do tend to run fluoro leaders on pretty much everything these days, including Sufix Advance, which cures my abrasion resistance issues for the most part.

Have you ever tried CX? It has very little stretch, but may
not be as abrasion resistant as CXX – I’m not sure.

It is, however, thin. 12# CX is thinner than 8# CXX.

I have not, but I’m not opposed to trying it. I know it won’t be a bobber fishing line, but for my other uses, I’ll give it a shot. How’s the memory, since it has little stretch?

if you compare similar diameters (8# CXX and 12# CX),
I don’t think there’s much difference.

Incidentally, I don’t use 10# CXX until summer because,
in cold weather, I’ve found it to be like wire – completely unmanageable.
