Limp Braid that doesn't absorb water

Post by reason162 » Sun Dec 29, 2019 4:27 pm

J Braid has been good to me, but in windy conditions and throwing jerkbaits/topwater...line tends to stick to the surface once it becomes waterlogged.

Are any of the JDM "jigging" braids more impervious to soaking up water? I'm thinking about the YGK Super Jigman etc. Ironically I don't mind J braid when actually jigging.

Now light 1/32 - 1/16 jig/ned rigs is a different story. There I'm looking at the ygk ss112 and ss140. But that's another topic!

Try tying on a short mono leader.

I use floro and mono leaders on everything.

Check out Sunline Asegai. That braid doesn’t absorb water

Sunline Xplasma Asegai is the best line I have ever used in that regard regardless of line type. Almost zero water absorption.

I used to use beeswax on my floating fly line, years ago, to keep it buoyant. Has anyone tried that on their braid to make it more waterproof? I can't find my beeswax, so I can't try it myself, and I don't want to buy some just to find out it doesn't work (I'm too cheap). ;)

Nanofil and Fireline don't absorb water due to their "fused" properties... Nanofil might be worth a shot for what you're looking for.

I originally went to light braid on my spinning reels, with a short fluoro leader, to cut down on line twist with a drop shot. Do those fused lines still help with that?

What size? The YGK SS112 is awesome, but it only comes in small sizes. It doesn't absorb much water.

Yeah, it does. Please don't ask me why it does. I like to get my braid wet, so it lays down faster onto the water when it's windy. It still floats, but it is heavier when it's wet.

In my experience I get more line twist with either a thinner or limper braid. If a limp braid is what you want then line twist is likely something you'll just have to deal with.

If you're getting bad line twist the best solution would be to find a way to put a ball bearing swivel in your rig. I'm not really of having a swivel in the middle of my terminal gear however. I would instead try the new 8-carrier fireline due to its stiffness. But then again I'm not a fan of limp braids and think I'm in the minority at that...
