Your favorite obscure reels

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Your favorite obscure reels

Post by Riverguy » Sat Dec 21, 2019 7:27 am

Wondering if anyone has any lesser known reels they like? I'm mainly referring to any reels that may not be well known for whatever reason...perhaps it was a rebadged reel made for a company or some other store brand; ie some of the cabelas 50th anniversary Daiwas Zillions or Pfluegers...Or something that was made w/a Pro's name slapped on it that maybe made/makes it slide under the radar. Something made for a limited time (I still have a rosewood knob pflueger president LE I LOVE). Something made by a now defunct (but still relatively modern) company, etc.

What say you everyone?

PS: merry christmas!

The original gold BPS Pro Lite Finesse were nice reels. Similar to an Alpahas. Light, cast well, easy to palm.

Other than most of the things that I have used that stood out were for a reason and not something that was under the radar

Shimano Stile 100XG

8.1, slightly smaller than the current Aldebaran, sweet cosmetics, shallow spool...perfect for short range 14lb FC like the T rigs.

I'm not sure any reels in existence have flown under the radar on this particular forum.

Probably true. There are a lot of "A Shimano what" or "Daiwa made what" type reels. Like I been eyeing up a Daiwa HRF Sonic Speed as a flipping reel candidate.

Dual braking skeet Revo.

A souped up generation 1 revo premier so all aluminum. Longer power handle but a few were made with dual braking before the generation 2 revos came out.

Got mine for $70 bucks and it is still smooth as glass

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Evergreen Opus-1 Nero.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

That's a good one...From what I recall kicking around that platform they were just solid sherman tanks, great for slinging big squarebills.

These are great guys! I recently picked a Pro Qualifier Tournament up...(basically the original Gold Carbonlite w/a couple differences)...Nice little lightweight, dual brake reel that palms good and behaves itself predictably. Was listed as a "BPS tourney special" which is a low end reel. Anyway this got me thinking about some of the forgotten lesser known reels out there that perform well.

Precisely the reel I was thinking of when I opened the thread. Actually the price isn’t too bad either if one looks around however I’ll stick to my fleet of Stella FJ and Exsence spins.
