Steez racing design guys
Steez racing design guys
I'm looking to replace my 6'8 Jackson super trickster pp finesse with a racing design for Ned's and shakeyheads as I feel my current rod is lacking greatly in the sensitivity department. My question is do I want the 6'8 or the 6'10. I believe the 6'8 is a medium and the 6'10 is a medium light, but the lue and line ratings are the same I believe. Thanks guys!

I didn't like my Jackson rod either.

Ah, well IMHO You should try going straight fluoro. Unless you're swimming baits or actively dragging them across the bottom it's just hard to tell you're getting a bite on braid. Even with a $1000 rod you'll be line watching just because braid doesn't transmit anything on slack line, especially when they just subtly pick it up like that. If the line doesn't jump, it won't make the rod tip jump and you'll never know anything changed until you see your line taking off or until the fish swims far enough to take out all the slack itself.
This is the way.

I’m going to run a light Carolina rig with a different rod this weekend and float a trd 12 to 18in behind and see if I feel the bite. I don’t have another finesse rod so I am going to put a 5/16 weight on c-rig and pull it with the javelin. I never tried this but I’m going to give it a shot. If I feel like I can feel the bite on a much higher level I believe I will definitely be looking for a more sensitive rod. I used the trickster last year and felt the same way even though I couldn’t see the fish the bait was in their throat before I noticed I had a bite.poisonokie wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2019 7:01 pmAh, well IMHO You should try going straight fluoro. Do you have enough spool capacity to tie on a leader long enough to reach from the spool to the beds you were fishing? That would give you a good idea of the rod's sensitivity on slack line with fluoro. I've never fished a super trickster, but I would think it would have at least some feel. How does a small crank or spinnerbait feel with braid on it? Can you tell when it runs into something solid versus grass versus a strike? When you drag a jig around the small pebbles in the beds can you feel it ticking across them?
This is the way.

I can maybe get that much flouro on it. Worth a try. I have never felt like it was transmitting much when dragging a small jig head. I have never fished a moving bait on the rod. Of the rods I have that I fish bottom contact with, Fmj, javelin, Valkyrie 6’11mh, perfect pitch and Valdivia, all feel way more sensitive. I understand that there is a difference in the rods but the feel is substantial.

My guess is he will be able to feel the fish fart, while using lead core line on a RD. That's what I imagine anywaypoisonokie wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2019 7:01 pmEven with a $1000 rod you'll be line watching just because braid doesn't transmit anything on slack line, especially when they just subtly pick it up like that.

I love my 6’10” medium+ shallow cover finesse. I’m not sure what weights you plan on using it for, but it will cover exactly the weights it states at least in my experience. I have used it with an 1/8 oz Picasso shakeyhead and roboworm trailer and really like it. I have also most recently threw a 110 on it. When the grass started annoying me I started throwing super flukes on it. Wacky senkos 5-7g jigs and underspins. It’s very versatile and has that power to pull fish in. The taper is fast and since it is only a medium powered rod it has a little give and pins fish nicely. Sensitivity on these rods is very good. I’d say it’s on par with my X7 super eiger just a different feeling. What the racing designs do better than other rods is help you detect exactly where your bait is in the water. Bite detection is also very good. If you look in the right places it can be had for closer to $725 shipped. That extra $275 bought me a nib KTF alphas. Gotta shop smart.

Thanks dom. That's exactly what I'm looking for I have found it in the low 800's but that wasn't shipped. 725 shipped is definitely workable. Any place special I should look

I have both the 610ML+ and 701MH and both are in the top 3 most sensitive rods in my book. The 610ML+ I've used for flylining Senkos and shakeyheads, perfect rod for those applications. Off topic from SRD, but another AGS rod to consider is the Heartland 741MHRB, unbelievable craftsmanship, sort of a cross between old school aesthetics and modern technology.

I have the 631mlfb skyray and the 681m/ml. As others have said they are just amazing rods, best rods I've ever used. Sensitivity is incredible, way way better than any nrx I have. I haven't used the 610 but my 681 is noticeably more powerful than the skyray but the skyray handles the bottom range of its lure rating much better than the 681. I tend to use slightly heavier rods for shakeyheads, like a medium or medium heavy so I would get the 681 personally. But for neds i would prefer a ml
