Spinning reel knob replacement

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Spinning reel knob replacement

Post by lifeofRiley » Thu Apr 11, 2019 1:59 pm

I'm thinking of replacing the foam knobs on my Stci4+ 2500fa's. What do you guys like? Could be either shimano oem or aftermarket, I am open to anything.

I actually just ordered Shimano Yumeya cork knob for my Stradic FJ. I have them on one of my Curados and love them and my Cardiff C2000 came with a similar cork knob factory. Just wish they would fit my Lew's reels.

I like the Shimano knobs that come on the 2500 and smaller sized reels like on the Stradic FK. That's what I replace mine with. Hope this helps!

I put stock Power Grip II’s (baitcaster rubber knobs) on my 2500, 3000, & 4000 CI4+ FA’s and Sustain FG’s. I also replace the bushing with a bearing so that the knobs a dual bearing supported. I generally need to shim them a little to get the slack perfect. I think it transforms these late model reels.

I use stock Stella rubber “I” knobs on my 1000 CI4+ FA’s and Sustain FG’s and same process as the bigger models above, except I run a 2500 handle arm instead of the stock 1000 size. Really transforms those light little 1000’s into better feeling reels IMO.

Originally I was swapping the Septone rubber knobs etc out for the Avail POM knobs. Some say they're too slippery but honestly they've been going well for about 4 to 6 years now without complaint.

There is also a POM V2 knob which is a little more rounder. Super hard material so will never ever wear out.

Otherwise there are some OEM knobs which are the hard black rubber than Septone rubber... They're the ones to get for the OEM look and feel as aforementioned Stella FJ, Rarenium FB Ci4+ etc.

I hated the foam knob on my Stradic so I swapped it out with a left handed Shimano Septone knob, part number BNT4240. End cap part number is BNT4150. You’ll have to do some digging for the part number if you’re a righty.

Yep, that’s what I was referring to in my post above! I can’t stand round knobs, and these baitcaster knobs are fantastic. Good point on the right and left handed versions. I’m a lefty and had to purchase accordingly.

Wow, what timing! I'm looking to replace the knob on a Stradic FJ 3000.
