Calling all Steez SV TW Experts
Calling all Steez SV TW Experts
Hello, I bought a Steez SV TW brand new last year. The casting distance is ok but never that impressive. For comparison sake, I have Tatula SVs that can cast almost twice as far. I initially had 20lb fluoro on in and thought maybe the line was a factor. I recently switched to 10lb Sniper, and distance is still sub par. I oiled everything, and loosened the spool tension so that there is a bit of side to side play in the spool—and even with the brakes set to zero, it casts like it's way over-braked. I don't think I could backlash it on a hard cast if I tried. Is there anything simple that I could check or adjust? Thanks for any info
Re: Calling all Steez SV TW Experts
Mine does not have the issues you describe. It casts very well. I have a 1012. Have you tried another SV spool in it with the same results?
Re: Calling all Steez SV TW Experts
Thanks for you input. Unfortunately I don't have any other spools that I can try. The Tatulas and this Steez are the only Daiwa reels I have...I mostly have Metaniums, Aldebarans etc. Guessing I will have to send it to Daiwa but hoping to avoid that if possible.
Re: Calling all Steez SV TW Experts
Some says that Steez's are overbraked.
And IMO sv spools are not for distance casting. Magforze Z are. I would purchace Magforce Z spool. Like Steez 103, or I'ze HLC spool, or SLP Works RCS 1012/1016 G1 Magforce-Z spools, or RCSB 1012, or Steez 100...

Id think you'd backlash it with it set to zero. Doesn't sound right.
Brand new reel/not tinkered with?
Is the inductor stuck in the extended position?

Yes, bought brand new and fished it with brakes set at 6 initially. Once I became frustrated with the heavy braking feel, I went to zero and have been fishing it that way for weeks with only a very slight improvement. I checked the inductor and was able to lift it up and down about 3/16" and it did not seem stuck in up position.

Are the black marker marks on the silver magnets lined up when the dial is set to max? And do they line up with the notches in the magnet holders?
If bought local, I'd probably just send it back to the tackle shop or Daiwa.

Re: Calling all Steez SV TW Experts
Not sure about the older metaniums but the 13 metanium and mgls have a 3x10x4 sideplate bearing and so does the steez svtw. I would try swapping a bearing it see if it has any effect. Most of my bearing issues were noticeable because they made noise, but it’s a quick swap and might be worth the few minutes it will take. Good luck.

Here is how it looks with the brake dial set to 20
And here it is set to zero

Re: Calling all Steez SV TW Experts
My guess is that the outer magnet has come loose from the housing/wasn't installed correctly.
If you're up for it, try to pry/lift the outer magnet out and reglue/reintall it so that the black mark lines up with the notch. Be careful though as the black mark will wipe off...

There's a link at the bottom to a youtube video that shows the fix.
If the magnet won't come out, it was probably glued/installed incorrectly, and you'll probably need to sort out a new outer magnet and housing. Alternatively, your reel might actually cast better towards the max (20) setting.

Something isn't right. There's no way any reel should cast double distance of the Steez SV TW.

Send it to Bryan at the Tackletrap.
Re: Calling all Steez SV TW Experts
How many other spools have you tried? I agree with the others, it might be a heavily braked reel, but shouldn't be getting out cast that badly.

Re: Calling all Steez SV TW Experts
Sounds like the inductor ramp is broken. Pull your spool out, and from the bearing side, you should see 2 plastic tabs coming through from the inductor side. If you do not see them, then it’s sheared off. You can also verify by turning the inductor by hand. When it reaches the point that it hits the top of the ramp, it should stop. If it does not stop, and you can continue to turn the inductor, it is sheared off. We have the parts in stock to fix this. This would be a super quick fix and turn around.
Thanks,
