Smallmouth Trapara and Troutino

Back on the smallmouth steam again. Water is still around 50 degrees and little high but were able to find some. Fished the Majorcraft Trapara 5'6 ultralight and Majorcraft Troutino 5'10 UL both with Daiwa 1000 Legalis reels spooled with 3lb Fireline. Trapara was fished with Lake Fork Live Baby Shad watermelon red, and the Troutino was fished with Reins Rock Vibe Shaker in Dynamite Shad. 1/24 oz jigheads for both. Mixed catch of smallmouth, crappie, largemouth and perch. Good day to be out, almost hit 70 here in Ohio.

Very nice. Other than 4”, what differences are there in the two rods?

The Troutino is a solid tip 'area' rod. That was the reason I got that model, something different. Majorcraft describes it as a bottom contact rod for spoons, not sure exactly what that means. I like it though, much faster than the Trapara which is more parabolic. It's rated
1.5 to 3 pounds so I'll probably change the line to 2lb nano. Definitely has a very fine tip, not sure the diameter. I like it for fishing small jigs. The Trapara is a traditional area rod, though not as slow in action as others I have fished. Both really nice, can't go wrong with Majorcraft.

Curious as I have only focused on BFS Trout fishing but have to travel though I live with tons of smallie streams in the town I live in. What would one look for in a rod in the 5.5’ range.

I like moderate to a moderate fast action because I am usually swimming a small plastic bait on a lightweight jig head. I also use braid all the time so a fast action rod isn't really necessary. The slower action helps with the initial strike and keeps them from coming unbutton when they jump. Smallmouth in streams are much more aggressive than their lake dwelling counter parts so the bite is usually decisive. The streams I fish don't have much in the way of wood cover so I'm not trying to turn their heads from an obstruction. We find most of our fish in deeper rocky pockets with deep being a relative term, 4 or 5 feet max. Everybody has different preferences when it comes to equipment but I really like the area type rods. I have many ultralight rods but I just received another Trapara in the mail this week, exact same model. I like that rod that much. Another trip this weekend to break it in
