Jig/T-rig Rod
Jig/T-rig Rod
This year I am really wanting to work on gaining more confidence in bottom contact baits. The overrated thread was a bit of an eye opener to me as all I currently own are Donyn’s rods; from Fury’s to Champ. I don’t really have anything else to compare to, but I have always felt a bit underwhelmed with the level of sensitivity of them. I purchased a champ 744 because that’s the rod I thought I would gain confidence in using contact baits. However, for $250 it doesn’t feel anymore sensitive than the Fury’s I own. I take it from the overrated rods thread, and other comments I have heard recently, there are better rods out there in that price point.
So, I’m looking for advise on my next rod purchase. It’s going to be my dedicated bottom contact rod. Preferably something that is no longer than 7’4” and can handle throwing jigs/trigs 1/4oz-1/2oz, and under $300. I don’t fish super heavy cover. Mainly grass, rock/sand, and mud. I’m leaning towards the 7’4” H3, as that seems to be a popular choice. I don’t have a lot of the popular/top-rated brands at any of the tackle stores around here. So I’m forced to purchase online, without the benefit of holding it in hand first. Are there any other rods that I can feel confident in buying online? A “can’t go wrong with” so to speak. Thanks!

The Megabass XX Perfect Pitch is an excellent option, or perhaps the XX Diablo Spec R since you aren't fishing anything over 1/2 oz and down to 1/4 oz with very little cover... both of these rods are fantastic, your personal preference of power would determine the right choice between the two.

Re: Jig/T-rig Rod
Go for the Perfect Pitch, but if you can upgrade to the Destroyer line, the FMJ is the best jig and bottom contact rod I've ever used. Get one from Gary/bronzefly!
Re: Jig/T-rig Rod
Those megabass rods are pretty sexy. And I have been eyeballing them for awhile. Love Tackle Trap. You guys go the extra mile in shipping rods in a safe container
Re: Jig/T-rig Rod
How long have you had the rod? How does it compare to other rods you’ve used in the technique? Thinking about an upgrade on my 13 fishing envy black 7’6” heavy rod I use for t-rigs and was debating a 7’2” or 7’6” expride. I use a glx 894c for jigs and always have one tied on.cndbasshunter wrote:Expride 7'2" heavy

I would go with the H3. I love mine. Light and sensitive.
Re: Jig/T-rig Rod
I’ve narrowed it down to the H3, perfect pitch, and IMX 853C JWR. I snapped my fury 704cb in half trying to boat flip a 3lber on a 1/2oz chatterbait. Contemplating on doing the upgrade to an extreme 744, but if the sensitivity isn’t in the same ballpark as the other three, I won’t waste my $.

How would you rate the orchi against a loomis imx?bronzefly wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2019 8:20 amThe Megabass XX Perfect Pitch is an excellent option, or perhaps the XX Diablo Spec R since you aren't fishing anything over 1/2 oz and down to 1/4 oz with very little cover... both of these rods are fantastic, your personal preference of power would determine the right choice between the two.

I think the DX rods are extremely sensitive. They aren’t NRX sensitive, but I can feel almost anything with mine. I have the 744 and would recommend it to anyone.BelDozer wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2019 10:36 amI’ve narrowed it down to the H3, perfect pitch, and IMX 853C JWR. Re: Jig/T-rig Rod
The XX is the clear winner for me, but that IMX 853c will be heavily taxed by a 1/2 oz jig plus trailer regardless. The Perfect Pitch is an extremely popular rod for good reason.BelDozer wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2019 5:43 pmHow would you rate the orchi against a loomis imx?bronzefly wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2019 8:20 amThe Megabass XX Perfect Pitch is an excellent option, or perhaps the XX Diablo Spec R since you aren't fishing anything over 1/2 oz and down to 1/4 oz with very little cover... both of these rods are fantastic, your personal preference of power would determine the right choice between the two.

Couldn’t agree more. Maybe look at the 7’6 MH or H Expride if you want more length. Nothing sub GLX price point can touch them

Re: Jig/T-rig Rod
Do you have any experience with the H 3’s for comparison? They seem at the top of the list for a lot of people, and a little less expensive by like $50bronzefly wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2019 5:12 amThe XX is the clear winner for me, but that IMX 853c will be heavily taxed by a 1/2 oz jig plus trailer regardless.
