Braid with leader for crankbaits

I use one around rip rap and when deep cranking. Typically ~3'. My favorite bend is a modified Alberto knot. I double the braid, go through the leader loop, wrap 5-6 times up, 5-6 times down, out the same side of the loop.It's very strong and shock resistant and easy to tie.

It depends on the cover. Heavy wood cover i would use fluorocarbon or heavy mono. Fishing deep water cover i would use a combination of braid with a fluorocarbon leader. Using braid only is an easy way to lose expensive baits when fishing heavy wood cover.

Leader is a must for me either heavy cover or open water.

i only use 1 or 2 foot long fluorocarbon leader (30/40lb) for crankbait and also 2 foot long mono shock leader for heavy cover to play on top water plug.... (just a thin layer vaseline is always nice to be applied on the braid, about a foot long from the join).

the joint is always outside the guide when I am casting.

I've been using a 7' leader of fluorocarbon (tatsu) 10lb lately with a FG knot, its worked excellent.

The Tatsu has a bit of stretch, it reminds me of mono....

I run Fluorocarbon for cranking if I want it to run deep and get there faster but for every other circumstance I run 10 to 15lb Braid with Fuoro leader using a Palomar knot, I don't think I really need the leader but I use one for everything except top water.

Yes, keep going back to my old rods with standard guides. The other option is FG knot but it's a pain to tie it and it will still rub.

What size guides? I use 4.5 SIC and Torzite, and have no issues with passing a 9 turn Albright through those guides.

I normally do 30lb braid to 12-14lb fluro leader about 10ft, i dont normally throw deep diving cranks, mostly 1.5 squarebills.
This year I was going to experiment with straight 14lb fluro
