Alphas SV or Chronarch MGL

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Alphas SV or Chronarch MGL

Hi guys,

I'm searching a new reel to pair with my new home made rod: an IMMWS 68mx from Batson. This rod will be use to search perch and zander with soft lures from 3" from 5".

I hesitate between this two reels. It's hard to make the good choice...

What is your suggestion?

I'm afraid that the alphas will be too fragile to use with 5"lure + jighead from 7 to 14gr. But i've got an Alphas Air and i Love this reel for BFS.

And in other way, is the chronarch will be a good reel for 3" lures + jighead from 3,5 to 5gr? He's got a lot of good reviews.

What do you think about my reflexion?

I have thrown 14-21 gram lures with the Alphas SV with no problem. I actually just bought another one after I sold mine earlier this yr.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

That chronarch is a great caster but the alphas will palm better.

From these 2 reels, i vote for Metanium MGL :lol: ! Just 60$ difference from Chronarch MGL, but better quality and performance.

Yes, the alphas palm very well. I love my Alphas Air. It fits great in my hand :D

@Loafer: I don't want to spend more of 200€ (app. 230$). That's the price of the Chronarch. And the alphas SV from amazon.co.jo costs only 185€ (215$)

Alphas/SV105 reels are extremely tough. Mine has been used for finesse, but caught many fish and stayed very solid. The Metanium could be interesting also, but I don't know how the aluminum micro gears hold up. The Chronarch would be better for larger lures, and I have cast 1/8oz with plastic fairly well with it. The Alphas SV will have better braking for lighter lures, but the Chronarch will out distance it with regular sized lures and definitely with heavier lures.

This all being said, I wish I had more Alphas SV's in my lineup. There is just something about its size and ease of use that I really like. Also like the line guide tracking with line as drag is being pulled out...

I'm a big fan on the Alphas SV but it is best used as for close in work picking apart cover with small jigs and worms. It doesn't hold much line and the braking profile isn't the best at long bomb casts and heavier baits. Wrong tool for the job IMO.

My SV105 is one helluva caster! I love that thing, and its even better to me that I cloned it a "Type R" look. (Think PX-R). I thik you will be just fine as long as you are not using line over a .013 diameter

I will spool the reel with braid: pe1. So i think i could put enough line on it. I dont need distance for this kind of Fishing.
