Dobyns Champion XP Cranking Rod 8' MH 805

Post by Rodster14 » Fri Jul 27, 2018 6:23 pm

I currently am using a G. Loomis IMX PRO 906CBR for deep diving crank baits (up to 1 ounce). My limit is the 1.25 ounce Spro Super DD and Berkley Dredger 25.5. It works great, but I would like to get longer casts. Does anyone have a Dobyns Champion XP Cranking Rod 8' MH 805 that you use to throw 6XD's, Spro DD's, etc. I have never had a Dobyns rod, but this one seems to meet the specs very well for what I want to use it for. I would love to hear your thoughts.

The Dobyns Champion XP Cranking Rod 8' MH 805 is exactly what I use for my deep diving crankbait applications (Lucky Craft CB D20, Megabass Deep-Six, Strike King 6XD, Spro Little John DD/Super DD, Duo Realis G87 15A/20A). I absolutely love how it launches and handles those baits. I highly recommend it.

You might want to check the handle length on the 805 compared with what you're currently using. I bought the 765CB and returned it because the handle length is very short. The 805 shows 14.5 inches in TW. which is only 1 inch longer than the 765, to me that might still be too short. I know the 805 gets tons of love here and other sites, so I'm not trying to knock it per say, just pointing out something I found.

I just picked up the Lew's Mark Rose 7'-11" big crankbait rod, which is specifically for the series 5 and 6 SK crankbaits. So far, I've only used it in my pond for testing, but I really like it. One downside, doesn't a premium a guide train as Dobyns. Love the handle and reel seat is very comfortable. On my scale, this rod weighs 4 5/8 oz... pretty darn light for an 8' cranking rod... Handle length is 15.5"
