Got my Xray blanks.. Weights

When production rods are not enough, it's time to go custom. Come share your experiences building and/or ordering a custom rod and tell us if you'll ever go back to off the shelf.

Got my Xray blanks.. Weights

Post by sarcazmo » Fri Jul 13, 2018 4:23 pm

So my bro has a food scale and I decided to take some weights of the two xray blanks I ordered.

When I took the weights I realized the way the scale presents the weight doesn't help much so... I'm looking for one on amazon so I can get more accurate weights.

So far the blanks feel pretty darn nice and resonate nicely. I'm debating what to do with the guide train. My last couple rods I built I used recoils, but I may go titanium alconites for these guys. Also going to experiment with hiding reel seat hoods, normally just cut them down, sand off the rough spots, and use a winding check.

Anyone else receive theirs?

I think Fuji Titanium Alconites are the best bang for your buck. Got any better close up pictures of those blanks :big grin:

I 3rd. Great guides and lots of sizes and styles. The single foot K belly guides are my favorite style. I keep redoing old rods I like with them in my spare time.

Getbit has a sale on some titanium alconite guide sets that look pretty promising. I may go with those for these two blanks.

Here's some more pics. Sorry, was hard to get my phone camera to focus.

Got my NFC MB 736-1 (x-ray lmx) today. It's 65,3g. RDA 547g with 181,5 WL.

Do you have measurements on the SJ 736? Just wanted to get a comparison between the SJ 736 and the MB 736.

Check rodhouse.fr. Theres flexing data. Curve seems to be almost identical with every weight.
