Anyone try one of these out? I’d love to give it a shot but nobody ever mentions a loomis frog rod?

It’s 884 TWFR or 885

That being said, I loved my old 844 IMX rods that I had
I’m not sure what these bring to the table but they look interesting.

Thank you, I have made the correction. I currently have a imx pro 845c cbr and love it! Was hoping to get a frog rod and naturally thought of a loomis just due to using my imx pro, and my e6x spinning rod.

344 for that rod or 479 for the XBD just something to think about.

I have the XBD rod but for toads( i know we are talking frog the hollow belly type) I use a different rod.
The balance is great on it and it has what i think is the best tip but is it worth that much more in a rod?
I would say that topwater rods aren't really what i think you should sink a lot of money in but for $135 more
just get the XBD..

I live in Canada where the imx pro’s are normally 430 so the Steez are probably closer to the 600+. I can get this imx pro 884 for closer to 240 so that’s a heck of a deal. The Zodias is the other rod I’m looking at, either the 7’2 heavy or 7’5 heavy

Than I would go with the IMX over the Shimano zodias

Okay thank you. So would you think the 884 or 885 would be the way to go. I’m trying to find the 885 in case I need to fish heavier mats. But being in Canada fishing a lot of mid to northern lakes I don’t see too many super heavy grass mats. Just don’t want to be under gunned. The 884 is a heavy power rod and most is light heads, open water need weed beds, and like I said late season on one pond I get thicker mats

The past month and a bit have been crazy and have had a chance to shop for a rod but finally got some free time. So I spent most of my morning driving all over the place before I finally got my hands on the imx pro 884 twfr a model I have been considering myself. Side by side I had the zodias 7’2 heavy fast, 7’5” extra heavy fast, st. Croix ltb slop-n-frog, shimano crucial 7’3 heavy. Weaning a few out really quickly I walked out with the loomis 884c twfr. I think for really thick stuff the 885 would be a much better choice but this rod can definately do it. I grabbed a chronarch mgl and spooled up 50lbs power pro braid and a 1/2oz frog and hit the pond.

Water is really low as they are pumping out for crop and the mats were thicker then usual but figured it would be a good test. I ended up missing close to 7 or 8 blowouts, but hooked into 7 bass from 1.25lbs to 5lbs 4oz, in open water to the thickiest stuff the pond had to offer. This rod preformed flawlessly. Plenty of backbone to horse that 5lber out of a thick mat and over a fallen down log, yet soft enough to throw that 1/2oz frog across the pond even on a really windy day! Needless to say I am very thrilled by this rod and pleased I made the choice with the loomis over the zodias. The balance and weight of the rod is excellent as well. I will be hitting 3 different ponds tomorrow to try putting it through it’s paces again!
