Re: Deciphering Daiwa Model numbers
Yes you're on track, look at matrix and notice the gear rations and how they correspond.

Re: Deciphering Daiwa Model numbers
Well, technically for baitcasters
H is high speed 6.3-6.8
HS (SH for JDM) is Hyper Speed 7.1-7.3
XS (XH for JDM) is Extra Hyper Speed 7.9-8.6
XXS (XXH for JDM) is Extra Extra Hyper Speed 9.1
No letters or a P after the size # means low/power speed 4.9-5.8
As far as the size #'s go, nothing's set in stone,
especially with frame size.
Generally
100=103=1016 34mm,
105 is shallower, could be 33mm
200=1516 36mm
300 38mm
400 40mm
There are exceptions to all of that
concerning spool diameter, width, and depth.

Sizes of spools indicate line capacity and are semi lineup specific.poisonokie wrote:Well, technically for baitcasters

For TD-Z, Millionaire, Zillion and Steez 100 is deep, 103 is normal, 105 is shallow. Also works this way with SV spools. All spools in the TD-Z and Steez lineup (Save the TD-Z 100ML and BBS) are 34mm diameter. Zillions are 36mm. The T3, Z2020, and Ryoga share a different naming scheme, but principal is the same. They complicated things by introducing the Steez SV TW 1016 and the Zillion SV TW 1016 and started straying from the original naming scheme.
I like TD-Z's

Didn't mean to post that yet, but yeah, it's a veritable rat's nest.
This is the way.

Re: Deciphering Daiwa Model numbers
Can be confusing.
Adding to the rat'so nest, 105 could be the SV105 (Alphas) or...the 105 sized SV spool for say a Steez are different. Both are shallower than a lot of spools in their lineup but, aren't compatible. Ithe gets easier to understand as you learn what reels are based off of what frames. Just make sure you research on here before purchasing spools. There are a TON of compatability aides on here.

I still don't which spool people are talking about half the time when I see "SV105 spool".

Probably the spool from the Alphas SV105?LowRange wrote:I still don't which spool people are talking about half the time when I see "SV105 spool".

Or the SV105 spool for a TDZ 103 or Steez???
Re: Deciphering Daiwa Model numbers
I'll take a shot at explaining Daiwa's naming scheme... (correct me if I am wrong)
The 4 digit designation is more specific and will tell you spool diameter and capacity. The first 2 digits are spool diameter and the last 2 are spool capacity.
First 2 digits:
10 = 34mm
15 = 36mm
20 = 38mm
Last 2 digits:
20 = 20lb/100m
16 = 16lb/100m
14 = 14lb/100m
12 = 12lb/100m
Example:
1016 = 34mm, 16/100m capacity
1516 = 36mm, 16/100m capacity
1520 = 36mm, 20/100m capacity
A 3 digit designation is purely spool capacity. Spool diameter is not in the designation so it is harder to distinguish. Think of it like how Shimano does their naming. A Curado 200 (34mm) and a Conquest 200 (40mm) have the same capacity but different spool diameters.
Examples:
Steez SV105 (34mm) / Alphas SV105 (33mm)
Tatula SV103 (33mm) / Steez SV103 (34mm)
Tatula 100 (34mm) / Zillion TWS 100 (36mm)
As Teal101 previously mentioned, Daiwa threw us a curveball with SV spools. The Zillion SV TW and Steez SV TW further complicated things with the 1016SV designation. According to Daiwa these spools hold 14lb/90m. Slightly shallower than a 1014 and not even close to a 1016. After some digging I found some interesting findings.
A 1016SV spool has the same capacity as a SV103 spool. Which is the deepest SV spool I know of.
A SV103 spool is shallower than a Magforce Z 103 spool. 14lb/90m vs. 14lb/100m
A 1012SV spool is shallower than a Magforce Z 1012 spool. 12lb/80m vs. 12lb/100m
A 1012SV spool has the same capacity as a SV105 spool.
So it seems like the SV spools are slightly shallower than their Magforce Z brothers.
Magforce Z capacities are:
100 = 1016
103 = 1014
105 = 1012

100 = 1016
103 = 1014
105 = 1012
Re: Deciphering Daiwa Model numbers
Yes - that is why the platform needs specified. Just like the 103 spool. A Steez 103 or an Alphas 103? Same difference - nothing new. Been like that for over a decade.LowRange wrote:Tokugawa wrote:Probably the spool from the Alphas SV105?LowRange wrote:I still don't which spool people are talking about half the time when I see "SV105 spool".
Or the SV105 spool for a TDZ 103 or Steez???
Re: Deciphering Daiwa Model numbers
It is all platform dependent.
In the three digit spools, they are as follows:
Td-z 100m us trail and Zillions interchange
Alphas and Sols interchange
TD-z 103 and Steez interchange
These are all "100" sized platforms.
Although the SV103 is in a Zillion frame, it is not a Zillion!! The Alphas SV105 is an Alphas.
After that it is just spool depth. 100 is deepest, then 103 and 105 is shallow Hal.
For the four digit spools, the last two digits are line size as posted above.

Re: Deciphering Daiwa Model numbers
There are also other reels like the Tatula 100 and Lexa 100 which makes it confusing. Not all 100 designated spools interchange.Tokugawa wrote:It is all platform dependent.

The 4 digit spools do interchange within the same series as they are all free floating design.
Re: Deciphering Daiwa Model numbers
Correct - and the Tatula and Lexa are a common platform. Again, interchangeability is platform dependent and not "number designation" dependent.Tony9 wrote:There are also other reels like the Tatula 100 and Lexa 100 which makes it confusing. The SV103 is more Zillion than the Zillion TWS or Zillion TWS SV will ever be.Tokugawa wrote:It is all platform dependent.
