Best braid for spinning reels?

Post by Samuel_b »

I’ve played with a few and been underwhelmed. I think superslick was my favorite, maybe... so for those who have tried a lot tell me the best one to get? And if I put it on a casting reel, is it the same or do you have another one? Thanks guys

While I can't tell you about longevity, I did try Gliss Supersmooth Monotex 12lb on a Daiwa Exist 1025 this past weekend, and really liked it. Prior to that, I had it spooled with 20lb Maxcuatro but it wasn't holding enough line in some of the deeper waters I was fishing. The only negative I had with the Gliss is that it's so thin, it sometimes would tangle if it was windy after taking a fish off the line/hook.

I'm on my second season with just the 15 pound power pro and it's still going strong. Surprised the color hasn't faded much either.

Sufix Performance Braid will cast much farther than 832, and at least as well or better than any other braid I have tried over the years.

There is no such thing as best, since it is all subjective.
I have found it easier to list the ones I would throw
832 and yes it is less boyant
Smackdowwn
Gamma
Fins
And there is nothing wrong with PP

There really isn't a best, but there is a braided line that will work best for you. What characteristics do you want from the line?

Thanks and sorry that was my bad for not explaining what my expectations were:
1. Ties good leader knots and doesn’t cut into itself or break easily
2. Castability
3. Longevity
4. Abrasion resistance last since it will mainly have a leader

So those 4 attributes in that order...with knot strength being paramount

Excluding the Palomar,
I have never broken a line at the knot

I've had a reel spooled with 10# pp for 3 years without any problems. Caught some kickers, too, including a 12# catfish thrashing around a pond with cover everywhere. I always use a double San Diego Jam with about 10 or 12 wraps with it.
This is the way.

P-line TCB 8 in 10lb green and 15lb in yellow have been my go to braid.

Fins 40g is also excellent.

10 on an inshore spinner is all that's needed

I always tie on a fluoro leader, and haven't had issues with power pro connection knot breaking. It usually only breaks off at the lure/hook when I get snagged. I've never had any issues with castability with any type of braid I've used since the line diameter is thin. I'd recommend anywhere from 10-20 pound braid for spinning reels.

Fireline Ultra 8
Zero tip wrap, fading, fraying
Rather stiff at first but becomes quite nice with use.
bye bye power pro!

I've read the only decent leader knot for fireline 8 is the PR knot.
