Chatterbait rod

Post by fishingandfords » Sun Feb 18, 2018 12:42 pm

Looking for ideas for a premium chatterbait rod. Combat sticks sound heavy and as of now I'm using a champion XP but I'm looking for something different. Maybe a javelin

I would think the Javelin would make a fine chatterbait rod, among other techniques. Possibly the Daemos if you want something slightly faster.

I will +1 on the weight involved being slung. I throw 1/2oz plus trailer on different rigs than say 1 oz plus trailers.

The Javelin is awesome. It's currently my primary chatterbait stick. If you like 7'5" go for it. If you want something a little shorter, go Daemos. Although I will say, cndbasshunter's CQ843/903 idea could be fun too 8-)

My chatterbait setup is a GLX 844MBR paired with a zillion TWS with 15lb fluoro. This rod absolutely excels at this application for me. I haven't really run into anyone else that uses an 844 for chatterbaits...so perhaps it is not a popular setup? But for me, this combo has been phenomenal.

I have been throwing them on a XX Tour Versatile. It casts a 1/2+trailer wonderfully and the rod wiggles enough to let me feel anything "funny", but not to the point where it shakes my arm off. I throw 1/4 ones on a CR723 and it is like holding on to a jackhammer.

My favorite for 3/8-1/2 oz is the combat stick mh glass. I own the heavy model and is tip heavy I don’t like it. My previous set up was a nrx mbr843c but I lost bites here and there. The mh glass is the best chatterbait rod I ever used. I throw chatterbaits sometimes all day long the hook up ratio is the best and the rod is very sensitive.

I use a NRX 843 for 3/8 up to a 1/2 and add a trailer.

I use an 843 and 844. I only lose fish when I see them hit near the end of the retrieve and rip it out of their mouth ](*,) . Otherwise I just lean into it when using braid or a light pop hook set with fluoro.

I have used alot of medium MB rods for 1/2oz plus trailer. I like throwing that weight on my main stay cyclone x4. I really liked that weight on the 4 piece Elseil 2 recently procured as well as the X7 Western Flip :big grin: Lot a folks like glass rods but I have yet to throw glass sticks in recent years. Well I did throw them on the BJ DTC which is a hybrid. That weight is very good on that stick but rated F5 I believe without looking. I have thrown that weight with other Med/heavy F5 rods like the Spinnerbait Special and it felt fine enough but I like the way most F4-4.5 MB rods feel way better for that specific weight. The only other weight I throw are 1 oz trailer combo and I throw that on my heavier megabass rods, more specifically the 30th Limited Fisto. I really dig the 1oz trailer combo on the ASL 7'11" as well. Those are my main experiences, I hope some of this helps if you go MB route and if you do please hit Mr. GW at Triple T! Boom!
