Quality Lead/Tungsten BALL Jigheads

Post by reason162 » Wed Jan 31, 2018 9:22 am

The closest I've come across are the Picasso tungsten ball heads. Gammy 604 hooks in choices up to 4/0.

Problem is, they only go up to 1/4oz...Gammy's own ball heads only go up to 1/4oz too, I need a 3/8 and 1/2oz damnit! Anyone know who is making lead or tungsten ball heads in heavier weights? with gammy 2x hooks?

Swimbait heads are nice, but sometimes you just want a quality ball head...you can put any trailer on it and it looks "right." Hook keeper design is important too. I like the Picasso wire keeper, just need it to be a tad shorter. The Gammy darter heads have a nice thin double-ringed keeper, but their ball heads come with much thicker keepers that bulge out the head of finesse plastics.

I've been buying some lead ball jigs and other things off a eBay seller named toadzilla14, or "Hazies Dazie Lures" on Facebook. He doesn't have a ton of configurations listed but has been able to fulfill my special requests without issue. I think his standard hooks are mustad but I wouldn't be surprised if he can do gammys for an up charge.

Here is a 3/8oz 4/0 he did for me. $8.99 shipped for 10 seems fair to me

I think most of the tungsten jigs come from the same factory in china, I get my stuff from omfishingsinkers.com. They seem sketchy but they have always delivered. The hooks on their stuff are not great and bend/break pretty easily when I tested them. I still use them for some stuff, but mostly stick to the sinkers they sell, which are great.

Weak hooks no bueno! I use these mainly in saltwater too...

So far the Picasso jigs show the most promise, but that hook keeper is hit or miss. I'll experiment with my rubber band keeper, also ordered some hitch trailer keepers to play around with.

Spro makes some nice ones with Gamakatsu hooks for the european market.
"Spro HD Heavy Duty 90 Jighead" should give you plenty results. But be sure to choose the heavy duty version, the regular ones are quite soft.

Those look perfect! The hooks are bit large, but that's the kind of clean ball head I'm looking for. Thanks!
