Daiwa Tatula HD 153 size

Post by bigturtle » Thu Jan 11, 2018 10:38 am

Anyone know if the physical size of the 153 is smaller than that of the 150? The 150 is the size of the original tatula, would 153 be of CT size?

It appears to be the old tat frame. The shallower spool indicates that it may be a Magforce Z reel unlike the previous fixed inductor tat HDs. Is Magforce Z listed anywhere?

Yes, the 153 HD has MagForce Z

Wonder if a 150 spool could or would replace the HD spool. Only downfall to my Tatula HD is that dang fixed inductor, even though it seems fine for now as a deep cranking/chatterbait reel...

You mean if a 153 spool can fit into the original HD reel? Daiwa lists them both as 36mm spool, so im guessing they are interchangeable

That should be perfect then... I know my original Tatula Type R spool fits in the HD, but there is a decent amount of gap around the spool lip, and the Tatula HD spool will not go into the original Tatula Type R frame even.

The Tatula HD 153 Spool does fit the Tatula HD 150 and the Tatula HD 200. Found these answers from Hedgehog Studio before purchasing one for my HD 200. I've installed the spool, and it does indeed fit fine. I did have to pull out one of the metal spacers in the side plate to achieve perfect spool centering. There were 2 spacers in my Tatula HD 200. A copper and a brass spacer. I removed the thinnest of the two - the brass spacer. Oddly enough, my schematic calls out only one metal spacer; Spacer #11. (Spacer #12 being the phenolic disc that the spool shaft rides against). The "extra" spacer in my reel was most certainly a factory "tune" for the original spool to center nicely.

With the HD 153 spool, you gain Magforce Z breaking.

Thanks for the info. The HD 153 spool is something I've wanted since tatula were first introduced. The hd 200 always left me wanting more and the 100 just didn't have the capacity for my swimbait fishing.

Got onto the water with the Tatula HD 200 with the 153 spool. Nice!
Effortless distance casting, well controlled spool. Lost all the vibration I was getting with the 200 spool. My feeling is spooling up the 200, starting with such a small diameter, often results with the spool being out of balance. And/Or my 200 spool was on the far side of spec. Certainly nothing outwardly visible. The 153 spool make it a whole new reel.

I also like how the new spool effects the mag control. "Normal" operation is at a number at least twice what I used before. 10-12.
When casting into the wind, almost maxed out the setting. Worked great!

Very satisfied with the Tatula now.

Where do you get the 153 spool??? Seems way to high on that one site, I would probably just buy another reel for that price unless there is somewhere to get it a good bit cheaper...

Hedgehog Studio - in Japan

I could justify it because it has already been fitted with custom knobs, and hybrid ceramic bearings from HS.

My Tatula has become a bit of a money pit, I guess!
