Chronarch B

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Chronarch B

Post by Riverguy » Sun Dec 24, 2017 6:51 am

For some reason I have a wild hair about picking one up, I can appreciate the feel of some of the older all metal framed reels. I used a friends old SF and was blown away, down right shocked at how that old reel felt. I was always intrigued by the B's. What were/are your thoughts on this series? Ive seen the TT review. Id mainly use it for tip down situations like medium squarebills. Also Id never owned a shimano with the older handles, can you shed some weight w/an after market handle?

Can't help with the handles. I have one Chronarch B. I keep it on a MH rod. The thing casts a mile. Backlashes are unheard of.

The curado and chronarch B are superior reels to 95% of the reels sold on the market today.

the B is a great platform with great ergonomics but the paint peeling was and is an issue.
i have to say the cranking power and smoothness of operation is bar none

I think that was more on the MG, no? It seems the magnesium reels tend to peel paint more so. I believe the B series Chronarch that he is referring to is the dark greyish looking one with the frame protection pieces on the top. I don't recall them having paint issues.
