Aldebaran MG7 and Braid
Aldebaran MG7 and Braid
I am looking to put 20# braid on this reel that is matched with a lami 735c rod.
I wanted to know if anyone has used braid with this reel and what were your results? If it was a Curado 50E i would not be asking this question because i believe that reel to be a bit more robust than the Alde.

You shouldnt have any issues with braid and that reel. Both the Alde and CU50 are metal framed reels, so you are good on both counts.

Re: Aldebaran MG7 and Braid
Went out and bought some braid but also some Missile baits The 48 which is a 4.8" worm and I had a pack already but bought more.
I really like this worm for wacky rigs.. and its also good for shakey heads. IT is very very durable more so than any other worm I've used. I also got the Daiwa Yamamoto fat worm, just haven't used it yet...
Any ways, I left my phone in the house when i went out and conducted operation testing of the 09 Aldebaran and 20lb suffix 832 braid and it casted out very well.. No wind knots to my surprise and for my upcoming bass hunt I put a 12" floro leader on it..
Im happy about it.. I caught a 3lber and several 2lbers so i was pretty stoked.

That 09Aldebaran was one of my favorite Shimano reels ever made. I love mine for light baits. Only reason I use it for that is because of the weight, it balances well for light rods.

Used 20# 832 on Core 50mg7 for a couple years, tossed frogs with it no issues. Then upgraded to 20# Super8Slick.

If you have any concerns just put in a set of 7.7 brass gears
Re: Aldebaran MG7 and Braid
Am I the only person who thinks Sufix 832 would be the upgrade??? Had some 40lb Super Slick (awesome brown color) that was strong, but frayed quite easy. I have never had a break off of braid (or fluoro in recent memory), but Sufix 832 works so much better in smaller diameters for me on baitcasting reels. Sufix is normally thicker than competitors, just feels more round, smooth, and durable to me for some reason...QUAKEnSHAKE wrote:Used 20# 832 on Core 50mg7 for a couple years, tossed frogs with it no issues.
