Reel for Diablo Spec-R

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Reel for Diablo Spec-R

Post by Big-Bass » Wed Jan 03, 2018 4:09 pm

What reel should I put on my Orochi XX Diablo Spec-R? One of my SV103H's or the XS's? Simple question...just looking for an opinion. Looking to fish light jigs, swim jigs, spinnerbaits, and Swing Impact style baits. Thanks!

How heavy is the lure gonna be? The 7.9 can be taxing on heavy baits.

Put the 103h on it. 6.3 gear ratio for those reaction Baits. Even if you are slowing down and pitching with it, you will be fine. People used 6.3 for years for everything. For what it’s worth, I have a sv103h on my DSR and it’s fhe shiz.

Out of 6.3 or 7.9 for the XX Diablo Spec R, I'd opt for 6.3 as I look at it as a utility rod to cover a lot of techniques. You could always drop 7:1 gears in it if you wanted to find that middle of the road between a little too fast and a little too slow. Do it yourself, or send them in to the shop, we'd be glad to help out either way!

What are the gear options for an sv103? I have a 7.9 that I would not mind slowing down, I think I fell too hard into "faster = better" and I don't want to replace reels.

I have 5 in 6.3:1 and 4 in 7.9:1.

Any gear set that fits the TD Zillion will fit the SV103. Check out Tackle Trap as they have plenty of options for you.
