St Croix 68mxf vs 610mxf?

Post by Tim Kelly » Sun Apr 02, 2017 6:35 am

These two rods have me confused. The blanks are virtually identical diameters and line sizes, but the casting weights are very different. Is the longer rod somehow a much lighter action? Even the 610mlxf seems to have a higher casting weight than the 610mxf. Has anyone fished both and care to offer an explanation of the differences?

I have also had this question, but I never found the answer.

I do know because of this I have bought 3 Legend Elite 68mxf's, and no 610mxf.

It's strange. I'm surprised they came out with the 610 without any real explanation. The TB series call the 610 a shaky head rod and the 68 a wacky rig rod. Not sure what to make of that.

I can only speak on the legend xtreme series. The 610mxf has more backbone and a stiffer tip than the 68mxf. The 610mxf reminds me of the loomis shakey head casting rod in relation to the tip and backbone. The 68mxf is a softer rod overall. Hopefully this will steer you in a direction.

Thank you. That's interesting and the opposite of what I'd have guessed based on the stated casting weight.

Bumping this thread. Has anyone figured out why a medium light rod has a higher lure rating than a very similar medium powered rod?

I have the 610mxf sc5 and have talked direct to the engineering department. They are missing marked and good to 5/8ths. They are releasing a tech update to correct the issue. I kept calling until they gave up and let me talk to the guys in the back. The sales guys ate retards and really only know the spec sheet.

Thank you very much. That makes more sense. You would think the sales reps would know this. I am thinking about the 610 mxf for shakey heads. I have the 63 mxf, but looking for something longer.

That should work great... I love to throw a Huddleston grass minnow on mine and it's great for that. Very versatile and sensitive blank imo.
