Opinions, new spool SV105

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Mine just got back from Daiwa a week ago, they fixed my inductor (just added a new one from a Zillion SV TW spool). I know it sounds crazy, but that alone seemed to really help, even though I never actually had an inductor stick once, I wanted to make sure it wouldn't before my SV105 was out of warranty.

I haven't tried a different spool, but I definitely see where people talk about the spring letting out the inductor too quickly. I don't long bomb as much with my 105 though, so it works great for 1/8 and 3/16 heads with 3.3" or 2.8" Keitechs while targeting lighter cover (precision caster).

Anyone stick a regular Daiwa Sol spool in their SV105s?

I’ve run the Ize Factory Red spool and the Ito AI spool in mine and love it for casting smaller cranks, but it will get away from you if you’re not careful.

I use both a stock spool and zonda spool in my alphas. I use the zonda spool for cranking and the stock SV for everything else. I like the control of the SV for skipping little jigs and worms. I wish it was more choked off at times to help me skip a little better.

I use the stock spool as well, once the stock bearings were flushed and re oiled, I saw improvements

I've never had an issue with the stock spool.

I keep trying to get the word out on these forums about making sure that the stock spool bearings are flushed. The spool bearings on any light spool should be degreased if you want to improve the performance with the light stuff. Also, it is best to use a lighter oil for the lighter baits. Daiwa has been putting a lot of grease in their bearings for longevity, but it hurts the performance with the light stuff. You can get away with a few drops of oil in each bearing without degreasing if you are only fishing baits 3/8 oz. and up. It's not as important with the heavier stuff.

Did you ever try the Sol spool in the sv105?

Unfortunately no. I have since sold that reel to fund some other stuff.

I did. It worked just fine.

How was it compared to the stock sv spool?

It's virtually the same performance as in the Sol/Alphas. A great compromise of distance and control, and better distance than the SV spool with anything 1/4 oz or more. I had an Alphas spool in one of my SV105's(rod was an Adrena 6-10M), and it was my dedicated spinnerbait/squarebill combo.

Sounds like I should try it out. Are the stock alphas spool and stock Sol spool similar? Thanks for the info

Sol and Alphas are basically the same reel. The spool performance is identical. Spools have slightly different porting, but are pretty much the same.

Thanks, I knew the spools could be swapped but didn't know they were basically the same reel. Thanks for the help.
