Shimano’s Curado K Baitcaster : More than Black and White

Shimano’s Curado K Baitcaster : More than Black and White

Image

Introduction: The Curado Series is a critical reel, arguably the most important cornerstone of Shimano’s entire low profile baitcasting lineup. While there are more affordable and more refined and feature rich reels in the company’s stable the Curado is the one that caters to the mainstream, the broadest segment of anglers that are looking for an everyday workhorse reel. Delivering a reel that lives up to the Curado name is no simple task. Simply put, this is the one that Shimano had to get right.

Great write up. Like you mentioned, I'm in the camp of thinking this may be the best Curado yet. We'll see how it stands up over time.

It's been confirmed to be made of brass. TTT has conversio kits for the Met based reels as the K gears fit.

Thanks Fishballer, Happy New Year to you and everyone.

Fully agree, will be fishing the reel a lot more to see if it holds up over time but already noticing that it is staying smoother longer than the I Series. Still no maintenance and the reels are cranking nicely.

I noticed that the review mentioned you all tested the K on the new Loomis IMX-Pro rods. I would love to see a review of them in the future. I have not found a lot of info about them out there yet, I love the looks of them but the price point is so close to the GLX now that I don't really know what to make of them.

Hi Houndfish, absolutely. We are working on one of them. We had some loaner rods we already returned but Cal has one and I just bought myself the swimbait rod from TW which I am spending more time with. Will get these in to the mix and do some additional comparisons versus the new GLX as well.

Fishing the IMX Pro rods and the new Curado rods side by side I definitely like the styling and feel of the IMX Pro rods quite a bit better, they just feel a lot more crisp and sensitive. But I guess that is really a no brainer considering how much more expensive they are. The IMX pro pretty much replaces the middle of the G.Loomis lineup which used to have a bunch of different series rods to pick from.

That is good to hear, I am really interested in the lineup, I am glad to see that it seems like full cork rods are making a comeback in popularity.

I had only started dipping my toe in "nice" rods when they started the blow-out sales on their midrange lines. I didn't really know enough then to take advantage of the various sales, but I did notice how wide the IMX-Pro range is, so it makes sense that it would replace the other lines.
