Your lightest Ultralight combo

How small is your rod and how light is your line? It's not about the size of your tackle, but how you work it. Come share your Ultralight and Bait Finesse System (BFS) fishing success here!

Searched back and found this old thread. Thought I’d dig through my outfits one day when it’s raining outside and see if any of my latest purchases weigh any lighter . Gillchaser

My lightest was a bfs combo. Jackson super trickster 6'4"L rod and an aldebaran bfs reel. 7.45oz total weight. It was a blast to fish with!

I had some trout rods that pushed my lightest set up sub 7 ounces but sold those as I like bass taper rods better. My lightest set up now is 203 grams or 7.1 ounces. It's a KTF Aldebaran BFS on a Fenwick GoldenWing UL.

You should be able to build a 6'6" rod at or under 1oz. I owned an Orivs 6'6" fly rod called the "One Ounce" 25 years ago that weighed one ounce.

I used mine to death... and then sold it... sort of regret from time to time but not much... I was not using it and I believe in selling crap you don't use...

Orvis may still sell this blank, although they no longer make the rod.

I have the 5 ft. PFS St Croix Rod, PFS for pan fish series.

I love it, have it matched up with a Shimano Ci4+ and 2 lbs. Sufix Nanobraid.

Biggest catch on this tiny set-up was a 4 lbs. bass, and about the same weight catfish.

It works great fishing from a kayak and pulling right up to docks and various structures, casting into the shadows for bluegills, etc.

*** I sort of wish I had a smaller reel than a 1000 series just to have one in my collection.

Old thread. But Orvis One ounce, as far as I remember, was 6 ft 2 wt. They compromised the grip. But yes, possible to build a 6' 6" at sub one ounce at 3 wt power without compromising the grip.
