Question for y'all

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Question for y'all

Post by ScoobyDoo » Tue Nov 14, 2017 12:44 pm

Was the Procaster

PT 33 daiwa's first low profile bass baitcaster?

If not...what was.

I know they had tons of earlier reels. As well as seikos. I'm just not sure if there was an earlier low pro.

I already have Shimano's first. Would like to add daiwa's

I don't know if you would call them their first low profile reels of that design but the PMF reels were even smaller along with the Silver and Black ProLite reels. Even though I think the Larry Nixon commercial says it is a low profile design.

Larry Nixon has a Facebook page. Ask him if he knows.

Loved mine, had a bunch of them. Picked one of them up recently and realized how heavy they are. First class back in the day.

Lew's BB-1 by Shimano...followed by the Bantam 100 and the early Daiwa reels...Lew's was around 1976 and the Shimano/Daiwa around 1978/79.

I'm still waiting on confirmation if they are indeed the first low pros form daiwa.

SM2A might have been the first low profile by Daiwa or the Pro-Lite. Bill Dance was using the SM2A around 1979/80 I believe.

Scroll down to see the price and gear ratio of the SM2A. I believe the PT33 came out in 1986/87.
