Kistler H3 7' light MH and Tdz103H
Re: What is your LIGHT texas rig setup?
NRX 893 and Met MGL, 12# FC
If I have to go less then this I resort to BFS casting combo or god forbid a spinning rig;;; or I just call it a fun day and go home and sit in the boat with a beer

Re: What is your LIGHT texas rig setup?
I just realized the title had LIGHT in all caps. The K2 weighs 2.7oz and super balanced.ccass wrote:I am still testing out a custom K2 714 with an 8.1 Steez SV TW. I'm running 14lb Shooter on it. I can go weightless up to about 3/8oz plus bait comfortably with the rod. Has a more moderate feel on the hookset than I was expecting but, it's been treating me well so far.
The NRX 852c is pretty good with those duties as well.
The SV spool is money for the weightless/lightweight T rigs. I like how it pitches smooth, far and effortless. You can then wind up and bomb the lure without touching the brakes at all.

Re: What is your LIGHT texas rig setup?
No super tuning involved, and just the factory spool. It helps to have a extra fast tip rod and a well trained thumb. I can pitch it far enough that I should be casting it at times.BlaineFred wrote:The challenge is getting the spool rotating with lite lures.johnnybassboat wrote:I have done the same, pitching is no problem. I pitch more than cast. The reel setup is just as important as the rod.BlaineFred wrote:How does it work for pitching?cndbasshunter wrote:I've used down to 1/8 with my 893 no problem with Aldebaran.BlaineFred wrote:
Wow....I am amazed that you can get the rig to work for you, especially wtih 15-lb line and a MH rod.
How do you set up your reel?
Do you use any aftermarket things such as shallow spools?
Is your reel super tuned?

Re: What is your LIGHT texas rig setup?
When I had a 15 Aldebaran for a short time, I found it was a great pitching reel when all the brake blocks were off. I did not like popping the side plate off and putting a brake block to on for me just to cast the reel.johnnybassboat wrote:No super tuning involved, and just the factory spool. It casted good as well, I just prefer to have a Daiwa for plastics/pitching because I can go from pitching to casting without touching the brakes.

Steez LTD with MB Honeycomb spool.. I don't think i would change a thing.. 10lb test is a beautiful place for it on this rod.

Agree on the preference for Daiwa. What Daiwa model are you using?ccass wrote:Reecejohnnybassboat wrote:No super tuning involved, and just the factory spool. Re: What is your LIGHT texas rig setup?
I have a lot of reels with the SV spool. I also use a Zillion TWS for punching and other heavy stuff. The SV spools are nice for pitching as well as the MagForce reels as well.BlaineFred wrote:Agree on the preference for Daiwa.
