First Look Inside the New Shimano Curado K Series Baitcasters

Image

Introduction: The most important reel in the Shimano baitcasting lineup, the mainstream workhorse Curado, gets a major update this year and will be officially introduced at next week's ICAST event in Orlando. Pictures of the reel have already leaked online but we had the opportunity to not only fish the reel but bring it back to the lab for a first look inside.

Does the thumb bar now sit a little lower? I liked my Chronarch CI4, but would occasionally trigger the thumb bar as I was jigging. In these pictures, it looks like the thumb bar is much more compact and in line with the frame of the reel, something that should prevent these misfires for me.

Looks like you had that preview for a while (7/6/15)! :D Why have you been hiding it that long? Haha

*on a side note, the specs are for the Stradic FK in the preview.

Pic on Tacklewarehouse shows the thumbar is still pretty high... thank goodness for that

On the first page of the preview you guys put the table of specs for the Stradic FK instead of the Curado K.

Thanks Guys, had a number of issues, looked like I uploaded a previous version of the article. The Stradic matrix was half merged with the Curado K specs. All updated now and fixed a number of issues.

Looking at the pics on tacklewarehouse between the Curado I and K, it does look to be about the same height, but I don't think it sticks out as far. That's what causes most of my issue.

Thank God they got rid of that convex pressure plate washer...

A question would beg, is there a mechanical anti reverse under that main drive gear?

Edit: just had another closer look didn't see one...

Does anyone know if the cast control knob clicks?

I wouldn't think so. The Chronarch MGL doesn't, so I figure the model below it won't have that feature either...

Correct, it does not.
