Megabass Gatta-X versus Jackall Pompadour

Post by Dug » Wed May 10, 2017 4:16 pm

I was wondering if anyone had experience with both of these lures and what is your comparative opinion?
I have the Megabass Gatta-C turbulence in Black and have been eyeing the Pompadour Jr with some interest. Seems like it fills the same niche but is a little different design. Does it fish better?

Any thoughts?

I can't say for sure because they're obviously going for a similar thing, but the Pompadour draws the craziest strikes of any topwater I've ever thrown. Part of it is that the wings are loose and squeak. You've got the Megabass, is it sort of loose and squeaky in addition to the other commotion it kicks up?

That plastic prop will give it a different sound. The Yo-Zuri 3DB prop bait sounds totally different and draws a lot of strikes, too. The plastic definitely won't have that squeaky quality, though.

there is some squeak but not the commotion from the plastic prop, more from the wings. There are two versions, the "Turbulence" with the prop and the Parahatch with twin willow blades.Image

I have a Siglett, but I don't have a Grand Siglett. I may have to try that one too. So between the pompadour jr and a siglett, that's less money than I spent on the single Gatta-x turbulence. And from what I have been reading, the Pompadour Jr is crazy good, The Gatta-x has been okay, but didn't blow me away, other than the stylishness.

I totally dig the pompadour. The jr is awesome, too, but if i had to choose I'd go with the bigger one. It catches fish of all sizes and the hawgs love it. Great bait.

Heard many good things about Pompadour,Gatta-X at same time been available for a while, and doesn't have much rave reviews.

Just fished a Grand Siglett today and at 1/4oz it really casts well for a light bait. It has a very annoying rattle and works well with twitches, not just a straight or stop-start retrieve. Had four or five blow ups on it, caught two and had another shake off. Which brings me to say that I don't like the hook/hook size. It will foul the wings occasionally, and I think might benefit from swapping it out for a treble. It also seemed to benefit from having the rod tip up a bit on the retrieve.

Pompadour Jr. really makes a dang racket, and if there's a topwater bite I'm definitely gonna use it. Works well at night!

Thanks for the replies, definitely in the market for a Jackall Pompadour.

Recommended color? I like the look of the bone white , and maybe the black bone?

Ive used them all: gatta x/parahatch, Siglett , Pompadour - they all equally bring bass to the surface for a swipe, in my experience.

When bass are frantically hitting top water, I prefer the jackell over the MB Gatta just because I find the hookup is more successful having two hooks vs 1 on the Gatta's

Actually there is a third version called Buggy. It does not have any of those attachments, just the plain body with the lip.

I have one, but do not really like it. The hooks hang up a lot during cast...

Cant go wrong with either. Pompadour gets my vote on this one though.
