If I could only fish one bait for an entire season, I would have to choose a jig. I think a jig is pretty versatile. You can flip or pitch it, swim it, or work it anywhere in the water column. If fish are short-striking, changing up the trailer color is usually the ticket. A jig also allows you to fish really, really slow, if that is what the fish want.

If I had to pick one it would be very tough but most likely a soft plastic worm with various rigging options.

I second the Keitech Easy Shiner, mine in a 4" size, any of the shad/bait fish colors, using a 3/0 or 4/0 jig hook with a 60 degree bend, an Owner CPS "centering pin" to attach the shiner's nose, hook passed through the body, point hidden in the dorsal built in crease. It can be fished from top to bottom totally weedless. The CPS extends the biting area, makes it easier for a fish to hook itself. I have found that no weight is necessary though I'd likely use one if I fished it deeper. One of the very highest quality plastic bait makers out there. Its swimming/falling action is tops. Brad

Spinners and spinnerbaits and blades baits in general.
But I rarely target LMB as my primary species.

Beetle spins seem to catch fish for me when other lures don’t.

If I had to feed a small village, it would be a ZMAN Ned. Not my favorite bait, but the most productive lure I have ever fished,

If I could only use one bait all year long for both numbers and size it would be a Strike King Rage Bug texas rigged with a 1/4 oz weight. Also fantastic on a swing head jig.
