Conquest 101 HG

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Conquest 101 HG

Post by Cyacnba » Mon Dec 05, 2016 12:13 pm

Hi everyone,

I recently pulled the trigger on the CQ 101HG, but I'm debating on which rod to pair it with. What rod are you guys mounting this reel on and for what applications?

Thanks

I have the right hand version of that reel and I use it for spinnerbaits on a MB Orochi XX spinnerbait special.

I have mine on a Megabass Black Jungle Shallow Fast Moving Special. Gary from The Tackle Trap hooked me up. Squarebills. :D

That combo looks beautiful! I was thinking about pairing it with the Evoluzion Super Diablo-II that I pre-ordered from Gary, but for now, I only tried it on the Phase 3 BD. So far, it seems like the CQ is more used for moving baits however.

Btw, I just noticed something that I hope it's not an issue. Does everyone else's CQ have this "mark/cut" on it?

I use it on a number of different rods, primarily for moving baits although I fail to why it shouldn't be used for other lures.

My reel has the exact same cut. Not an issue imo. Enjoy.

Man I want one of these so bad. Only problem is these are the reels I'm looking at right now for a next purchase. SV103, met mgl xg, scorpion 70 xg, sustain 2500 (found for about $220 online). I'm going to do a little research about spool capacity and make some notes before I buy. I have 2 ch50mgs, 2 ch50e, a cu100b, and I don't even get a chance to use all those. Hopefully the yen keeps dropping for a while.

I have the same cut on mine :) I use mine with a medium light or medium power rod. Use it for plastic swimbaits and crankbaits. The IPT is like 23 inches so I prefer faster IPT reels for jigs, topwater, etc. Castability is not an issue, its just the IPT

Beautiful combo =D> I'm really enjoying the Shallow Fast Moving Special myself.

There are so many great options out there for your new Conquest 101HG. It's a very capable all around reel, but I like cast and retrieve moving baits with them more than jig/worm presentations. I'd focus in on something moving, the Megabass SFMS would be a great choice obviously!

Thanks everyone, glad that "cut" is normal. I've had some bad luck when buying some high end products in the past.

For now, I will pair mine with the P3 Bearing Down for jigs since I need to slow down with this cold weather. Once I receive the new MB Evoluzion, it will be dedicated for moving baits.

Will do and that's great news! I was just about to ask you if you had received the rods.
