1st Build: K2 683c (Pic Heavy)
Been looking for a high modulus Rod with a moderate/fast taper to throw topwater and jerkbaits on and believe I found it with this blank. I had thought about building one for a while now, and decided to go ahead and jump on it. The build process was not as difficult as I thought it would be, but was still nervous once I got started. The process went very smoothly and the Rod came out better than I hoped. This blank has surprised me with the amount of power I can put on a fish. With the blank being more moderate than my NRX 842, I've been able to lean on the fish much harder than with the 842 and not lose them. I have been throwing 1/2oz topwater and as low as 3/16oz jerkbaits on it, and loads up on the cast nicely.
I want to thank Tackle Tour for the info that's been posted on these blanks to make the selection process that much easier!
Here's some of the components used in this build:
Phenix K2 683, extended to 6'10"
Fuji Ti/Tor reverse stripper, KB, and KT guides, sizes 6, 5.5, 5 and 4.5
Pac Bay Minima trigger section
Fuji KSKSS/ASH SK2 hidden thread hood
Fuji Perfect fit thread cover, cap ring, base ring, winding checks
Winn grip 2.5" straight taper grip
Fuji EVA butt grip
Still need to add a hook keeper and labels, and a little finish touch up. Removed the yellow wraps since they didn't match, and am not sure what to go with there. Been fishing the rod for more than a week now and have been catching some big redfish on topwater, and it is amazing. Haven't tested the sensitivity yet, but will give my thoughts on that side by side with my 842 when the time comes. I'm more about performance than aesthetics, but this Rod covers both for me. Please forgive me for the Rod being a little dirty, but it's been getting some serious use.
Balance is Perfect! Feels like nothing is in your hand!

I thought aussibasser had bought a low profile Shimano for sec.
The table tricked me.
Nice clean build BTW. Love it.

Thanks guys! I'm loving this rod even more everytime I use it! The build process was a lot of fun. Only worked on it an hour or two each evening after work and it came together fast. The graphite weave looks beautiful, and some finish really makes it pop. Time to build a few more, thinking 713, 714 and two 715s.
Again, I appreciate all the reviews and info that's been put out on these rods by members of TT Without that info I'd definitely be lost.

Very nice work. Did you not cover some of the wraps with epoxy yet, or is the layer just that thin?

Re: 1st Build: K2 683c (Pic Heavy)
The first 3 guide pics were right after they were wrapped, so no epoxy yet. I found it easier to take it outside to make sure everything is lined up and no gaps, so I figured I would take a few pictures while in the sun. First coat of epoxy is done, and still need to do a little touch up. Should finish that up tonight or tomorrow and will post a few pics when complete.IlliniDawg01 wrote:Very nice work. Thanks JD! I have a feeling you would be very pleased with one of these rods. Handles those 1/2oz topwaters perfectly! Everything is great here, perfect weather and the fishing is as good as ever. I hope you and your family had a great Thanksgiving as well!JDLaman wrote:Jeff, Excellent work on the rod! That looks like a very nice setup for my kind of fishing. Nice Reds too!
