Megabass Essentials

Post by quantum angler nt » Sat Aug 20, 2016 10:50 pm

If one was to create an arsenal of the ten most essential megabass bass rods, what would they be? By "essential" I mean the classic rods that must absolutely be a part of any megabass arsenal. There should also be reasonable coverage of all the major bass applications (e.g., cranks, spinnerbaits, plastics, swimbaits, jigs, etc.). To further illustrate by what I mean by essential, if I was developing an essential G Loomis arsenal, I would include at least a few of the MBR GLX (783, 843) rods. They must also currently be available (not a discontinued model). I'm interested in your input!

Megabass make new models almost every year. Most models the majority really like on TT forum already been discontinued.
Looks like new 2016 Destroyer line up didn't really impress.

I have heard there are a few standouts in the 2016 destroyer , Faust and bandersnatch i am pretty sure, but i am not speaking from experience . I think it may be possible to find a 2015 Black Jungle Power Versatile, I love this rod.

I've fished quite a few of the new 2016 Destroyer models quite a bit now, they are great rods. Plenty of guys who've gotten them through The Tackle Trap have had a lot of positive feedback as well. The only complaint about the 2016 Destroyer line is the lack of longer, heavier powered rods, the rods themselves are excellent.

Regarding current production models, are you willing to include available ARMS Super Leggera models? Between the current production lines of ARMS Super Leggera, 2016 Destroyer, Black Jungle, Tomahawk, XX, and Levante, you could certainly create a great line up that will cover any kind of bass fishing you'd want to tackle, though it wouldn't be cheap

A few currently available that I'd absolutely have on the list:

F6.5-74XBJ Power Versatile (a few on the way to TTT now!)
F4.5-69XBJ Shallow Fast Move Special
F8-73X Faust
F5-68X Bandersnatch
F4-66X Cyclone
F3-610X Hein
ASL7206X
ASL7005X

There are several other models currently available to fill in gaps or to round out a top 10.

Where are you getting this info from?
Other than one guy not giving favorable initial impressions on a Super Destroyer which I actually think was taken back after using it, I have only read positive feedback.

I for one, love my Bandersnatch.

For example jdmbassman, he always goes the best, and I doubt he picked any of 2016 Destroyers yet.
I don't say new Destroyers are bad or don't worth it, but I think Megabass made better rods in the past, I like X7 or Evoluzion line up better.

All great choices drewlesch, but the OP asked for current production models and even the 2015 X7's are out of production. If we were talking discontinued models, I'm confident there would be a lot more folks who would jump in with a similar list!

Ok, makes sense. I guess if jdmbassman didn't buy one.....

Everyone it've seen/talked to seemed to love their 2016 destroyers. Shoot, I'm bout ready to pull the trigger on a couple of them myself.

Maybe the link is throwing people off. If megabass is selling phase III nautilus again, is it really discontinued?

Thanks all for the replies thus far. Since so many megabass items seem to get discontinued, I will expand my question to include discontinued models that can still be obtained in a reasonably easy fashion... Does that change answers?

X4 Cyclone for my pop x and other small topwater
XX Aaron Martens flipping special, this rod was just what i needed for heavy cover flipping.

So many sticks - so little time. Here's my all time list...not that I have been able to get them all...I didn't include any Arms because they are all out of this world.

Super Red Demon
Super Destruction w/ SB
White Python w/ SB...although the WPII is pretty nice
711 (in any flavor) or the Black Python (same blank)
Randy's 777 (anyone care to comment on Aaron's P3 777?)
OG Mephisto
Diablo Spec R
Super Eiger
Baitcasting Hedgehog (X4 is incredible, the Hi 10 must be stellar)
Stinger Shot

That lineup will fish just about every bait ever made.

You are spot on fella, if it's a Megabass jig rod that I'm wanting then I'm not looking past the Phase III line up. Bearingdown for 3/8oz work and the G-AX is my skipping wand. I absolutely love the old school Megabass's Evoluzion F4-610XDti Elsei for Jerkbaits. Of the newer rods then Megabass Evoluzion C40 F2-67ti Themis makes a great top water rod and for versatility it is hard to look past the Megabass X7 F5 1/2-70X7 - Diablo Fast Move.

That's five for you, the C40 Elsei is a lighter power versatile stick but I'm struggling to make up ten. Who would too when there is Evergreen, G Loomis NRX, Luxxe Oltre and Jackall Ultima rods to buy ;)

My advice would be to start buying rods second hand and try them yourself. You won't lose much money that way and you will have a blast trying them all out. Tight lines.
