Re: Reel lube, what brand and why?
Gears/Frame/Frame Bearings: SuperLube
Spool Bearings: Oust Met-Oil
Drags: Cal's Drag Grease
Worm Gear: Abu Garcia Reel Oil

Re: Reel lube, what brand and why?
TSI321 nothing else needed : )
Re: Reel lube, what brand and why?
Tsi 301 for ss bearings, hot sauce for ceramics, or red daiwa oil.
I use Daiwa blue grease, and for drags Cals.

Re: Reel lube, what brand and why?
I run bearings dry after applying Tungsten Disulfide, Longest casting and longest lasting lubricant I have used.

This list has been around for a while, it could use some updating but there is still some good information contained in it. It may help to make a decision based on viscosity and the temperature of your local area.

How are you applying the lubricant, if you don't mind me asking?DougL58 wrote:I run bearings dry after applying Tungsten Disulfide, Longest casting and longest lasting lubricant I have used.

X2 Any dos and donts when dealing with this material? Looks promising!Tavery5 wrote:How are you applying the lubricant, if you don't mind me asking?DougL58 wrote:I run bearings dry after applying Tungsten Disulfide, Longest casting and longest lasting lubricant I have used.

Re: Reel lube, what brand and why?
Tony, In reference to your viscosity chart above... have you found the viscosity rating of TSI 321 at fishing temps in any literature?

I have not, I wish I could remember who it was that originally posted this list several years ago so that I could give him credit for his work. It seems like he was in that industry and had the ability to measure viscosity, the list could use some updating but I still often refer to it.

I put some info in this post on the application; http://forums.tackletour.com/viewtopic. ... de#p420727zodiak311 wrote:X2 Any dos and donts when dealing with this material? From memory he was a physicist, whose first name was MarkTavery5 wrote:OkobojiEagle wrote:Tony, In reference to your viscosity chart above... have you found the viscosity rating of TSI 321 at fishing temps in any literature?

Re: Reel lube, what brand and why?
Cals or Shimano drag grease for drag washers
Reel-X soft grease for covering gears and other internal parts (including gear teeth). Have also used Shimano TBM-0 grease for baitcaster gears with good results - recommended to me some years ago by a Shimano reel tech.
Corrosion X oil on the worm gear - will try TSI 321 soon as a test.
Smith IOS-01 for ceramic spool bearings, low viscosity non-Newtonian oil that lasts a long time
TSI 321 for stainless steel spool bearings, but IOS-01 is also very good
Personally, I can't stand loud bearings so dry lubes are out for me. I also fish in the salt a lot, so corrosion is always an issue....

Re: Reel lube, what brand and why?
He posted at another site under the name Mark G. I think he is/was a materials engineer for a major company in the Midwest. Haven't seen anything posted by him in five years or more. He contributed some very original and useful information to fishing discussions.Strewth wrote:From memory he was a physicist, whose first name was MarkTavery5 wrote:OkobojiEagle wrote:Tony, In reference to your viscosity chart above... have you found the viscosity rating of TSI 321 at fishing temps in any literature?
