shimano antare 2012 or Metanium 2013

Post by littlefish » Mon Apr 01, 2013 3:31 pm

i bought a core 51mg for my nrx 873, i feel it is tip heavy, i was thinking to use the rod for jigs, but the unbalance cause me use the rod for weightless soft plastic bait.

i want to buy a new reel to balance my nrx 873. i should buy shimano antare 2012, Metanium 2013 or any good suggestion?

I found that also, I have since put one of my Core 100MgFV's on the rod and it balances much better but still not perfect at the forgrip but enough for me, around a 1oz difference between them I think.

I'd get the new Metanium for the looks and smaller design. Antares is a bigger reel for heavier duty. Maybe just get a tiny balance kit and epoxy it to the end of the rod adding very few grams, plus getting the Metanium?

New Metanium feels cheap and unrefined. I am going to get the new Antares as well, but I have a feeling the new Antares is going to be much more refined and smoother than the new Metanium. Just my 2 cents...

Cheap and unrefined? How so? I am very interested in this reel, seems to have all the features I'm looking for in a new reel.

the new antares hg with its all magnesium frame and sideplates, micro brass gearing and x ship is one smooth reel and imo has no equal.plus the mg spool is an awesome performer.keep in mind this reel is the same size as the calais 200dc ,its the same frame with the exception of the handle side being modified to fit the x ship.

If it feels better than the Steez I am all over it. I LOVE my Steez reels. Man, this is looking more and more like the reel I have been waiting for from Shimano, high speed gearing, x-ship, sub 6oz, flexible color scheme, SVS, and micro gears. I would have sprung for a Core 100MG7 if only Shimano didn't think it would be a great idea to only offer them in righty ](*,)
