Dobyns or G. Loomis?
Dobyns or G. Loomis?
Gary Dobyns Bass Rod 807 MAG HSB
8', 1pc, 20-50lb, 1-7oz, Mag Hvy Fast Action
OR
G. Loomis Swimbait Rod 956 7'11" Heavy
Lure Weight: 3oz-8oz
Which one would you get and why? Please don't say both
Does anyone have any comparisons in terms of the action and the fishability of the sticks? As well as any likes and dislikes about them?
Also was wondering what kind of graphite is G loomis using for the swimbait line up?
Thanks!

Did you happen to handle any of the rods in the Dobyns swimbait line up?Cal wrote:No, I did not handle that rod during our outing with Dobyns at Clear Lake.davej wrote:Cal to did you handle this rod on your outing with Gary?
Re: Dobyns or G. Loomis?
Nope... he forgot them, that's why I was throwing the Punker on his frog stick. I've held them at ICAST and all I can really say is, they were extremely well balanced.bigfish2 wrote:Did you happen to handle any of the rods in the Dobyns swimbait line up?Cal wrote:No, I did not handle that rod during our outing with Dobyns at Clear Lake.davej wrote:Cal to did you handle this rod on your outing with Gary?

Thanks for the feedback Cal, it is appreciated.
I think that balance pic may make my choice a bit easier

I have the G Loomis 955 Swimbait rod and love it. I can cast all day long and it has the good ole warranty to boot........... My only stink with loomis is the reel seat is not compatible with any of my reels and I need to use a spacer with my curado 300 or the reel falls off while fighting fish.

Re: Dobyns or G. Loomis?
that Mike Long 807Mag paired with a Daiwa Big Bait Special is what I'm aiming for. This is one setup I won't need to hold before using I recon.

Re: Dobyns or G. Loomis?
I have the Dobyns 795 SMBT and it's awesome. I have never used a Loomis swimbait rod, but I have used several other Loomis rods. If I was gonna get one, I'd go with the Dobyns, lots more people throwing SB's on the Dobyns rods, and not a complaint I've ever found....

I've got a few 795 ml's & 806 ml's ( and still a gen 1 866hsb ) and absolutely love 'em. I do not own an 807 mag, I just don't throw baits large enough to need it. I have fished the 807 and it is a STICK. If you are throwing huge baits I think it would be the way to go.
