drive gear
drive gear
I was cleaning my tatula and accindently nicked my drive gear. The reel now grinds. Is there anything I can do to fix or do I need a new drive gear? How would I go about getting a new gear and how much does it cost?

Not sure exactly what you mean by nicked it, but you probably will need a new drive gear.. I am guessing it will be under $20.MrEddyG wrote:I was cleaning my tatula and accindently nicked my drive gear. The reel now grinds. Is there anything I can do to fix or do I need a new drive gear? Re: drive gear
It has a very minor flat spot on like 6 teeth in a row and when you turn the handle it can be felt when it gets to that spot. Worse when I have thumb on spool to imitate load. Yes I am a dummy.

Call up Tackle Trap and see if they can get the gears for the Tatula. They are an Authorized Daiwa Parts Dealer.MrEddyG wrote:Where on the Daiwa web page can parts be ordered?

Just got a reply to a email I sent. Call customer service and I can order there. $12.60 + shipping.
Re: drive gear
Just fixed it with 1000 grit sand paper and rubbing compound. Good as new.

Re: drive gear
I was gonna suggest using a precision file to remove the flattened spots on top of the teeth. If you can identify the damaged spot(s), it can usually be corrected with careful work. Using a rotary tool with a buffer head and an abrasive compound will further smooth those edges and the retrieve. Glad to hear you were able to correct the damage.MrEddyG wrote:Just fixed it with 1000 grit sand paper and rubbing compound. Good as new.
