Versus Goliath - Targeting Goliath Grouper in Florida

Image

Introduction: Goliath Groupers look like gigantic bass and are some of the most voracious predators that cruise the wrecks and reefs in South Florida. These bottom dwelling titans are responsible for stealing many a fish from unsuspecting anglers whom are simply trying to get their fish back to the boat. I’ve wanted to catch one of these monsters ever since I first tangled with one of these beasts, and lost, just over two years ago.

Thanks Mark, really impressive pull on the end of the line. Never knew fighting a Goliath could be so fun... and exhausting, all at the same time.

I bet! A 15 lb catfish kicked my butt, and I only fought it for five minutes, tops.
Do people actually dive around those monsters?

Yup, they rarely mess with people but they are known to steal fish off lines or even speared fish. Sometimes anglers get in the way, hahah.

Man, that is some scary stuff! Those fish are gigantic!
And to think I worried about a sea lion coming into my boat.
Thanks for the links.

What’s the lightest tackle used ?
I assume no finesse equipment was on the boat
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible
