Their "Series Three" (S3) reels represent a complete engineering overhaul in both spinning and casting reels. Today, we take a look at the first product from this product refresh, Quantum's S3 Smoke low profile baitcaster.

I bought six of the original Smoke Burner 7/1 reels when they went on sale for half price.
They have been real workhorses and relatively bullet proof, as long as I lube the aluminum gears.
Do you find this new Smoke S3 to be a big improvement over the Burner?
I replaced one of the Burners with a bad gear (not available for replacement) with a newer Smoke 100 7.3/1 reel, and found the screw that holds the lube port in place was right where my palming finger rested, and I had to file the head down to make it comfortable.
Did you have that experience?
I don't recall having that issue with the burner... and unfortunately, the time between my use with these two generations of reels was too far apart for me to make any comparisons.
