Exclusive First Look at the New Shimano SLX Series Reels and Rods

Image

Introduction: While the Curado DC is no doubt the biggest baitcasting reel launch for Shimano this ICAST there is another new low profile reel that is looking to make a splash this year. Entering the market for the first time is the new SLX baitcaster series. Fans of Shimano biking components will immediately recognize the SLX name, and that it is designed for value and mainstream oriented riders. The new SLX baitcaster is designed to do the same for anglers, providing a solid, versatile, and affordable everyday workhorse option.

Very cool. I saw the promo video for it this weekend which is one of the best I’ve seen.

Not looking as good so far Daiwa. These CG80 reels better be nicer than they look. I would take VBS over a linear magnetic system any day. Other thing about this SLX is it seems to have Curado K style knobs and handle... I am assuming the SLX has 5 bearings (2 spool, 1 pinion, 1 main gear, 1 anti-reverse). I am not sure that the Fuego CT isn't a better competitor for the SLX than the new CG series...

I like it. Centrifugal brakes, aluminum frame, small and $100 msrp. If Daiwa kills off the Fuego CT and offers up some plastic pos as a replacement then the future looks good for this reel.

Is the fuego really on the way out? If so, I’m buying like ten

Fuego is still in play as far as we've heard from Daiwa
