Sorry guys.. thought I addressed casting performance more thoroughly, but I cannot check my original document as I am out of town right now and won't be returning until just before we leave for ICAST. We had trouble with the Sweet Drag Chart too on upload.
Regarding scoring differences ... it happens between products/brands especially when different editors are involved.

Yeah I was wondering where the drag chart was. It has swayed a couple of my reel purchases.
Re: Daiwa's Beloved Alphas Gets Another Variant - SV
Something else I noticed in the specifications is that it is listed as having 2 bearings per knob. My reel had no installed bearings in the knobs and came with 4 bushings. Anyone find anything different?

Yep. My Alphas had 1 bearing 1 bushing per knob, where as my SS had 2 bushings per knob. The TT review stated his SS had 1 bearing, 1 bushing per knob. Not sure what's going on thereTavery5 wrote:Something else I noticed in the specifications is that it is listed as having 2 bearings per knob. Pretty sure my Alphas SV had 2 bushings per handle.

It is erratic at the upper end, but unless you hero hook set jigs with it, the drag is fine. I swapped mine for carbontex because I like to lay the wood to fish and am using the Alphas for heavy cover fishing where I want fish pulled up and out as fast as possible with no slip.Montanaro wrote:Yeah I was wondering where the drag chart was. Levelwind does disengage on casting. It does not disengage when drag is pulled because the gear that meshes with the levelwind gear has small pins/nubs on its face that engage holes on the bottom of the main gear. Anytime the main gear turns as when pulling drag, the levelwind turns also. Same system that is in the Sol and Fuego, and I am sure others.IlliniDawg01 wrote:If the lineguide doesn't disengage on drag does that also mean it doesn't disengage on casting?Hogsticker2 wrote:I didn't even realize the level wind moved when pulling line till I read this. I've been enjoying casting damn near everything with this I guess I never paid attention. I think the review came so fast before they get bogged down with Icast, and this little gem couldn't wait.

Any chance on revisiting this review to update the article now that ICast is done?Cal wrote:Sorry guys.. thought I addressed casting performance more thoroughly, but I cannot check my original document as I am out of town right now and won't be returning until just before we leave for ICAST. Maybe they're holding out for an Alphas sv VS curado 70 shootout. That'd be a good matchup
