Besides the price being more when the review was started than now (can be had a Plat for less than 500) is the fact that they deducted for being a dedicated finesse reel instead of a multi-tasker.

Points were not deducted from the T3 Air's performance for not being a multi-tasker, rather points were not awarded to it for being able to handle more than that for which it was designed. There is a difference.

In our current rating system, in the sub categories where there is a 1-5 score, everything starts out as a 3 - average. Points are then awarded or deducted from average. Yes, the T3 Air cannot handle big baits and no one would expect it to, so points were actually deducted here, however, same is true for the Aldebaran BFS. The rating scale represents general categories and all reels are subject to the same scale. It's called being objective.

Regarding the price.. the 55,000 JPY listed price has not changed (some sites offer a discount), but the exchange rate has. This does not change the fact the T3 Air is still a $500+ reel. Ratings are not given on potential discounts or other deals, but on listed price.

Any idea what was causing the handle problem on the Aldebaran BFS? Seems like a strange problem as there aren't many things that would cause this

I was surprised that the BFS out casted the T3 with the same weight and that the T3 couldn't dip lower with such a light and shallow spool. Bring on that LTZ/LTX review!

I'd like to see an ltz ae74 review. I'm curious how it does in comparison to the T3 air. It's another reel I've really been interested in.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I read the review and "you'd think this reel could handle any number of presentations and techniques but with such a shallow spool, you're more or less limited to finesse applications." sure sounds like it was penalized because it is a dedicated finesse reel. Also as far as price the T3 runs roughly 400 then add the extras like a KTF spool, new knobs, and finesse bearings and one should expect to pay more than an 100 over the base price, we (as for us modifiers) all do it and do not complain.

I agree with you. I guess there's nothing to gain by getting into semantics with someone that can't just say you're right.

I guess it seems like if you want to buy the reel and use it for the purpose it was designed for you'll probably be good.

Cal,

Since there is a new air reel (SS Air) from Daiwa coming out, will you see how it stacks up to both of these other finesse reels?
