I just got a Hero 3 silver edition Go pro. Im trying to figure out what size Micro sd chip would be big enough for filming a day on the water and what not. I dont want to run out of room after a couple hours or so. Can anybody help me with this one? Wasnt sure where to really post this question....hopefully it doesnt need to be moved.

This is what I found when researching the same thing a few months back. The reality is your battery will die long before you fill a 32gb card. 3 hours is gopro's official max battery life estimate while recording I get about 2-3 from mine depending on outside temperature.

Here are the average recording storage times for a 32GB SD card:

1080p (30 fps): 4h 21m
960p (30 fps): 5h 26m
720p (60 fps): 4h 21
720p (30 fps): 8h 09m
WVGA (60 fps): 8h 09m "

Yep, you'll run out of battery long before you run out of card space if you are looking at a 16 or 32GB card.
I haven't had mine long enough to determine warm weather battery life, but this winter in 35-50 degree temps I am getting 2-2.5 hours record time on a charge. I bought the Wasabi charger with 2 extra batteries and it works well.
You can't go wrong with a big(16gb+) fast card given how cheap memory is now.

Yep, the batteries never last long enough to match the SD card capacity. I have some cheap Chinese knock-offs that I bought on ebay for backup. But use at your own risk...

Yea I think im going to get a 32 gb. I also plan on bying an extra battery (or two) and the car style charger for it since my boat has one of those plug ins. How does the 960 p look? I know 1080 is best of course but 960 is easier on the sd card and battery...but then again I dont want a grainy or crappy quality video....Im new to all this and not techy at all...but I like the gopro stuff and went ahead and got one.

Make sure you get the highest 'Class' sd card you can afford.
The cheap class 4 sd cards do not record data at a rate that works well with 30fps or above... choppy video lost frames
