Lowrance HDS-5 Settings

Post by joeim8 » Sat Aug 06, 2011 10:32 am

Hey guys,

Trying to get familar with the HDS-5 unit.
You guys have any tips on how to get the most out of this unit.

Should I just keep the auto sensitivty and auto everything?
I know to take the fish ID off in most cases.

The other day I really started to mess around with it.

I put it on manuel mode.
Sensitivity - 85%
Color Line -75%
set the depth - 0-45ft
Noise - low
surface clutter- low
ping speed - 17
chart speed - normal
and a few other things.

I was able to see my dshot rig ok but not as good as I have seen on tv.

Anyone have any other tips for settings on the HDS-5 or Lms 522c?
I mostly fish erie around the islands sometimes the harbors.

Thanks guys.

I would just keep experimenting while you are on the water until you get the best picture. Sorry I can't help you too much yet because I am still learning myself. I have heard that in warmer months to turn your sensitivity down some to reduce the amount of microorganisms, trash, etc that clutters up the screen and makes things not as clear.
