Am I setting up my orange seals wrong

Post by ah_long » Fri Apr 15, 2011 6:38 am

I have a set of Boca Orange Seal A7 installed on my Sol (Spool and Side plate) but I can't seem to reach (let alone surpass) the performance of the original bearings.

Using my finger to flick the spool, the Ize Spool w/ stock side plate bearings can give me more than 15secs while the Orange seals are struggling to go over 10 seconds.

I also observed that the spool slows to a stop where the orange seals stops a lot quicker at lower speeds.

I tried removing the seals, flushing the bearings, running them dry, running them dry without seals, running them oiled without seals... non of those seem to give me close to stock performance

any insights?

i have orange seals in almost all of my reels.. i feel there is a break in period with these.. i do add a drop of hot sauce oil to the bearings but only a little bit.. when they are new, they are veny noisy.. once broken in a bit they become a little more quiet... i only have them broken in on my CC & 7.1 zillion.. those reels i use the most.

Instead of the flick test try a spin load test like this http://youtu.be/ISOLkPB7Xt4. If you're not getting that kind of spin with it let me know. We stand behind the bearings 100% so if there is an issue with the bearings I'm going to make it right for you. email me at larry@bocabearings.com with your info.

Sorry, how do I execute that load test? Wouldn't that damage the bearing (from what I see, is that a screw driver wedged in there?)

It's just an awl (spike) you won't do damage to the bearings. Shoot me an email, I'll get it sorted out for you.
