steering council adaptation, for depthfinder mounting

I have a 2005 16'6'' Smokercraft I want to add a block to the left side of my steering council so I can mount a Helix 7 with a ram mount. I want to mount it on the left side so I can spin it around and see it when I am fishing the front of the boat. If I mount it on the right side where there is a spot for a depth finder My view will be obstructed by the council. I know a 4''x4'' block will do the job but I have maintained the boat very well and I don't want a 4x4 wooden eyesore on it. Is there a good site for plastic boat accessories or maybe someone has some Ideas about how to add something that doesn't look cheap on my new looking boat?
