Canoe Mods

Post by hyperdriver » Wed Jul 11, 2007 8:00 am

I own an Old Town 14'7" Guide Canoe. I love it, but would like to have a bit more stability, I've seen stability bars sold for a few hundred dollars at Cabela's for it, but I'm not fond of their designs. Was wondering if anyone has some pics of some custom stabilizing devices for their canoes.

I'd like to stand up and flyfish from it.

don't get hung up on appearances.

I second Avid's pov. The spring creek stabs rock! I use mine to stand up, so I can flip, pitch and sight fish. Awesome with trolling motors as well. I have a RiverRidgeCustom (which is quite stable by itself), and can stand up while I motor across open water. It totally changes the way you can use a canoe. I also use non-marring camo tape to reduce glare from the metal pontoon arms.
